Looks like he decided on Thanksgiving ham instead of gobbler! Turkeys were all around us, but never came in view. We took the pig spot and stalk, which is always fun. Unfortunately this morning was our one and only hunt for the Thanksgiving break. Back in August it seemed like a good idea to be at Kyle Field this Saturday.

My daughter took a nice fat doe this morning. We got rained out this morning, it’s been raining here all night long and it’s been pouring the last couple hours. First Thanksgiving morning hunt I’ve missed in at least 20 years.

Rained 3/10 overnight and fine mist now. I’m set up and settled into a cozy blind.

Congrats to the little girl, good job taking her out hunting.
We hunted Coleman county for 4 days and took a nice cull 8.
We are hunting Leon county this morning before heading home for thanksgiving.
It been super slow in Leon county because of all the acorns, plus we had hog dogs back yesterday.
I did talk to the guy and told him not to run hogs on my property during deer season.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. Good luck this morning, we’ve had 1.8”s so far and it’s still coming down pretty good. Were going to make a drive by pig run shortly to see what’s stirring. The kids home for Thanksgiving and already shot 4 yesterday afternoon I’ve got to drag off today. She’s got her mag reloaded this morning and itching to go so I guess I’m on the clock and getting wet after all.

Light rain over night and forecast rain all day. I stayed relatively dry getting into a comfy stand. Day like today I would prefer staying here all day so I don’t have to get out and back in again in rain. But folks in camp I should spend time with so I’ll get down later. Days like this I really appreciate a quality blind. Good luck and be safe to anyone out there today.

Oh yeah, something about sitting in the blind and listening to the rain. Puts me in a sleepy state. But love it. Montague county near Nocona got some heavy rain thru the night but steady right now. Saw a little bit of action yesterday afternoon. Good looking wide 7 pt, one of the g2 was busted off. 3 1/2 yr old. He had his nose to the ground. Let him walk. Then 30 minutes or so later I heard a shot. Hopefully the neighbor didn’t shoot him. He will be a beauty in a few years.
Sitting in a new blind, elevated tower with canvas sides and top. Seems to be holding up well, dry other than the rain dripping in from the windows.

I’m in a box blind in Leon county, it slacked up enough where I could get out. I’m trying to get a hog or a coyote. Hunting has been slow in Leon county, just too many acorns. I did see a nice buck thanksgiving morning in a stand I was hunting in, the grandson hunted a different stand and seen a couple does. If you have neighbors like I have on one side of my place the buck would be dead, we always see several illegal nice young bucks that disappear, Plus we have been having trouble with hog doggers this year.

Still in the blind. It’s still raining. We are flooded at this point. Had to make a run to camp and evacuate the bowels thank to Bullfrog’s chocolate habanero and some other pepper I ate last night. Archery oct !1- jan 15
ML oct 22-30
Rifle nov 19-dec 4
Yes, the deer up where FR hunts have great genetic potential! Even withiut much crop land. Lots of mast trees and abundant browse.

Sorry DQ, TxBuc beat me to it. Long archery season is great for bow guys.
I prefer rifle so that season is 16 days including 3 weekends.
Easy to get into Muzzy with modern inline scoped guns so I did that and it’s 9 days including two weekends. So between rifle and ML it’s 25 days including 5 weekends.
The long 3.5 month bow season allows crossbow so a good one of those is pretty deadly so I got one of those.
