What would it be? I know, I know there's hundreds of cartridges out there that THF members use. But I think I picked the most popular one. No

And I'm talking about what do you think is the most prevalent in the state now, and will remain very popular for years to come.
It's gotta be .308 Win. Errbody got one, and if you don't have one, go get one.

I am sure the .270 is most prevalent.

For years the 270 is the one I see most using. Personally, the 7-08 is my go to, with the 25-06 mixed in at times.

I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

I just bought another. Wanted something in 308 under 42” long and 9 lbs suppressed and scoped.

That list 308 or 270
I think 7-08 is making a huge comeback. I bet 6.5 CM has surpassed the 30-06

Hard to say…..if we go by the most purchased round in the last 10 years I would agree the .308 and the 6.5 cm are the leaders.
But lots of .270 shooters still out there…..and that’s the ammo that had been the hardest to find so it appears they are still shooting that round in great numbers.
I can’t say for sure if the number of people hunting currently with a .270 is greater than those shooting a .308…tough question.
Interesting observation, I grew up hunting both in east Texas and south Texas as well as the Hill Country and spent lots of time in many different deer camps from 98’-2010 and didn’t know anyone who owned or shot a .308……first guy who showed up with a .308 was from California, had a T/C bolt gun chambers in that round somewhere around 2007. Had another kid who had a .308 in a browning micro Midas who was from Florida right around the same time period.
I remember both the hunters and the rifles in detail because they were so rare

But I see a lot of guys still using the 6.5 cm in the field. Spent time in a camp last week, one guy shot a .308 two guys had 25-06 and we had a 7mm-08

Depends on what the use is. Most popular is definitely gng to be the 5.56 which isnt listed. Deer hunting probably 270 or 30-06. Pig hunting probably 5.56 or 300blk. Plinking either 22 or 5.56.

.308 for me, got my vote. It kills good, I own 2. A CTR and a Rem. Mohawk. I was looking for the best short action round I could find for whitetails when I made a change 8 years ago. Really glad I settled on .308.
I have 6.5 Creedmoor, Tikka T3x fixed up with a B &C Stock and bottom metal from High desert Rifle Works. No complaints, it's a killer also but I just want a bigger wound channel when I'm whitetail hunting.
I have a 7 mm Rem. Mag, Tikka RoughTek and wow, really like this rifle as my mule deer set up, first season with it. It's been a blast on some big hogs at 200 + yards.
.243, 5.56 and a .300 Black out round out my line up.
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

I said .270 because most hunters are one gun hunters, because they don't have unlimited resources. They have a deer rifle and can't afford the next fashion caliber.

I said 3006 because of the wide range of bullet grains. Although I do own 2 other calibers 270 and 308.

And at about the same velocity in factory ammo after really checking it with a chronograph. The .308 Win reminds me of a good pickup, nothing fancy, just a solid workhorse that gets the job done day after day without much fuss.

I think either 30-06 or 270 if we are talking all the rifle owners in Texas.

Decap, stainless tumble, anneal. And some have got sized and trimmed. Think I'm up to 2500 pieces so far, and more to go.

I said .270 because most hunters are one gun hunters, because they don't have unlimited resources. They have a deer rifle and can't afford the next fashion caliber. That was the case for many decades, but I don't think that holds true any longer. I bet if you poll most Texas Hunters they own more than one whitetail-suitable rifle.

Of the list, I may just say its the 270
But honestly, it would be hard to say the .243 isn't either...I know its not on the list
It'd be a coin flip, they just been around so long

I guess .270 since 30-30 wasn’t an option…
