Now I'm questioning. What is a chicken pot pie? It's the opposite of chicken and dumplings or is it a soup?

Just like gumbo is not a soup, chicken and dumplings is not a soup either. I think that would be why you see soups and stews usually under the same category in a cookbook. No one really knows.

If you do a search on whatever search deal my computer has on it, about 98% call it a soup and everybody knows how accurate internet info is, so based on that I'd say it's one of those 'eye of the beholder' deals...

I never ate any till about 10 years ago. Found a recipe on line and made my own. It is now one of my all time favorite meals. My wife has always loved the dish and said this is the best she`s ever eaten. That looks delicious!

Yes. Its a soup then you toss in the dumplins - they don't change the fact that its a soup. A soup can be defined as a food dish that contains both broth and pieces of meat It should also contain other ingredients such as vegetables and dumplings. Chicken and dumplings possess all of these so it's a soup. So you are saying if you cook/bake/crockpot pork chops or chicken breasts in a cream of mushroom sauce it’s…. A soup? If you braise/cook/crockpot short ribs in a Sauce…. it’s a soup? If you braise a roast in a sauce…. it’s a soup?
