I took my dad hunting last week. I just took him to the stand and went back to camp. I found myself pacing at first light. I was just waiting to hear that tell tale thump and rifle report. It didn't come that morning so again that evening I took him and set him in the stand. I went back to camp sat on the tailgate and cracked a cold one. I knew I was going to hear that shot. Nothing... I don't know what's harder on me, sitting and waiting on a big deer or waiting on the shot that says Dad got one. I truly am anticipating the shot, the shot that my dad makes. grin

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Early 2022 photo; no telling where that buck is? Unless your hunting high fence. But, that’s why they call it hunting and not shooting. Good luck.

That's what I was thinking. There's many on here that don't have that option any more.

Spacejunkie you're right, and it's about time I made these memories with my kids. I'm about tired of public deer hunting, I haven't even gone yet this year. I think I need a lease next year - if anyone knows of something, let me know.

100% agree... I would give anything to have that one last hunt with my Dad!

My old man is 77. He likes his independence and has no problem telling you. roflmao I let him sit in the stand alone, it's his way, and then in camp we make a fire and have drinks, food and conversation. He tells his war stories. The 3 brothers and Dad will all head out to my place without their wallets (mommas got them) tomorrow after the turkey lunch. There have only been a few times we were not all hunting together in the last 30 years. We have lots memories and we don't pass on a chance to make one. Hopefully he gets an old buck while we are all there together. Good thing is, he has choices and we all agreed he shoots first. rifle

hook_n_line that is an awesome tradition. I miss hunting with my Dad. I have 4 sons to hunt with and I am like your Dad, I like my independence.

My grandpa had a passion for deer hunting, the family inherited it from him.
The last couple years I had to take him in a wheelchair, his fingers were so stiff he could barely pull the trigger, he didn’t get a deer those last couple of years but he got to get out and hunt and he enjoyed it.
