Strange story that ended in DPD releasing my aunts SAA to my mom. We didn’t know anything about it until it was picked up. Serial # tells me 1901 first generation in pretty decent condition. I didn’t get to look at it long, they just stopped by my work for a minute. Curious about any information on these. I know the value varies wildly depending on this or that. Looks like a 4 3/4” to me.

What's the story on it? Was it stolen then recovered? Used in a crime? Good looking pistol for sure.

Sorry, no cool story coming. It was in her possession at the time of her death. That’s about all I care to share. I just figured I’d explain the photos before someone ask about the evidence bag. Etc. I probably should have waited and got some different pictures but I just had a minute.

Very cool gun. Gonna be lots of speculation on the story but I think I can read between the lines. Sorry for y’all loss.

Thank you.

Not much of a story to read between the lines on. In Dallas, and maybe everywhere, if a person who lives alone dies in their home and there is a firearm clearly present in the home the PD takes it for safety purposes and releases to an adult family member. This is to prevent kids from getting their hands on it when family does arrive. At least that’s how the investigator explained it. Seems like a decent program to keep kids alive since you can’t guarantee parents will parent especially in a time of crisis.

Natural causes per the autopsy. 80 years young.

In general I was curious about the gun and errored by not waiting to get better pictures.

It's a 5.5" barrel and the nickel is in better shape that it should be for a 120 year old Colt. I'd say it's been re-plated and polished in the last few decades. The lettering is a little less than crisp also pointing to a refinish. Nickel first gens are much less common than blued and if original, are a dull silver color (like matte spray paint with chips). The grips are also not original, adding to the difficulty in putting a price on it. It's worth a couple thousand for sure and to the right person, maybe 2-3 times that.

Send in for a letter from Colt. Only costs a few bucks and they can tell you how it was originally equipped, etc.

Pass the gravy.

Gasguzzler under quick inspection I have to agree. It has plating in the scratches. I’ll be glad when thanksgiving is over and I have time to check this out good.
