My family had a good year for elk hunting. We went 4 of 5 on bulls this season. We hunted three different states and all bulls were taken on public land. I was extremely sick the last half of 2nd season in Colorado which kept me from helping my wife fill her bull tag. I will make it up to her next year. My daughter's AZ bull My 1st CO bull ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/11/full-71819-371025-greg_elk_10_01_22.jpg) My father's WY bull (his first elk at 77 years old!) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/11/full-71819-371027-img_0163.jpg) My 2nd CO bull ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/11/full-71819-371028-greg_11_03_22.jpg) I plan to get to Texas for a standby hunt yet in December or January. I hope every one had a great season this year and enjoys time with family at Thanksgiving!

Wow now that is some great success for sure! Your daughter killed a huge one. What did it score?
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

My daughter's bull scored 322'. We snuck within 75 yards of him and his 15 cows/calfs. A few bugles in his face and he came in very upset and stood broadside at 10 yards. It was quite an experience for her!

What caliber do you prefer for elk and mule deer?

BassBuster1,
I have had the same rifle for 33 years and used it for everything. A Weatherby Vanguard in 7mm Remington Magnum. It has never let me down once and has effectively stopped everything from coyotes to moose. I have always used handloads. 139 grain Hornady Boat Tail Spire Point for antelope/deer and 160 grain Nosler Partitions for elk/caribou/moose.
