Something is different this year with fall.
Oak trees are for the most part in still full foliage, very few have shed their leaves or turned colors. Normally by Thanksgiving the trees are barren of leaves. My fig trees still have 100 percent of their leaves and not turned colors at all. The leaves on top got singed from a frost, the rest of them look like July. They never did have figs this year. Think Feb 2020 messed them up. After the drought which killed a lot of oak trees I figured the oak trees would shed their leaves early. Gum trees for the most part still have all their leaves as well as the hickory. The leaves are making it harder to see the deer in the woods.
Noticed going to the place last Friday what I call winter weeds that come up in January along the highways are already growing. The weeds that resemble cabbage plants are in full growth on the road side. Checked my garden to pull the tomato cages and found new onions growing that were not there a couple of weeks ago.
Acorns are covering the ground but, that happens every so many years, but this is a bumper crop in Leon County.
Deer seem to be moving more in the middle of the day than normal.
Bucks were running around opening weekend around like it was the last dance, last weekend they were feeding together like it was late December. Only hogs I am seeing are boar hogs, no sows with piglets. Have heard virtually no shots since opening of deer season.
Each evening I sit in the blind I am seeing 6 to 8 armadillos. Have not seen that many since the 70s'.
Thoughts?

Climate change! I'm with you. I've never had this many acorns or seen so many armadillos. I've seen more deer by camp than are coming to the feeder. Corn is growing under the feeder. I have trees with split trunks that have one side dried up and the other is full of green leaves. Persimmons are full and deer haven't touched them yet. Very strange year.

Who knows what the cause is but it has been an odd year for everything that’s for sure.

Most dry years has them acting quite different than a normal year. Usually when there is a dry year the rut comes earlier. The deer at my house are going crazy chasing does and that is at least a week earlier than normal. The bucks down south are already starting to show signs of getting testy and checking does. Of course the rut hasn't started there but you typically would not see that type of behavior for another couple weeks.
The long cold snap definitely plays a part in this as well making the deer want to be more active. And I do not recall ever in my life seeing this many days this cool in mid November. We've had a ton of mornings in the 40s and no day has gotten to 70 the last 11 days with several days topping out in the mid to high 40s.
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!
