Try to plan hunts around sun, if possible. Take sun over wind any time. Hunting Fannin. Should be good.

Good Luck. I was going today but stuff happened. May try to scout and hunt Friday.

No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.

You hunting public or private?

If public, are the birds just using the middle of the lake?

Small ponds/stock tanks, so not really big enough to have a proper middle.

Odd morning. 2 guns could have shot as many Red Heads as we wanted- limit 2 each and filled the rest with gadwalls - and 1 boot lip. Could have shot ringers but was hard to tell them early vs Red Heads. Finished with 10. Pretty much over after 7:15. Weekends better- shooting around us stirs them up.

Bet I know where you guys were! Had my buddies send me pics of their hunt this morning and said the same thing. Covered up in Redheads, and finished limits with teal, and gadwalls.

Really odd, no teal, few pintail and mallards early - no sun or wind, they wouldn’t work the spread, just the outer edges. Didn’t want to wound one and have my cocker swim 100 yards to chase/ retrieve

Hunting VanZandt Co today. Few teal around last weekend, Fannin tomorrow. Solo today, 2-3 guns Sunday am. Last moment flu hit the group, but believe I filled their spots.

See what we got here in an hour or so. Good luck to all and happy holidays.

Typically don’t shoot ducks at wetland south of I20 until Dec 7th- handful of teal Thursday, 3 man in Fannin Co today - first wigeons of the year- mallard, red heads, gadwalls and a few ringers- only a handful would finish- lots of ducks on edges and cutting us short at 30-40 yards. Not way I like to shoot them- we took more shots on water to finish long shots and avoid cripples getting away.

Have a feeling going to get stale very quick. Been a great first week of the season

Another odd one, hunted Vanzandt Co wetland today - beaver trapper said it was covered up, so I drove up solo last night. Never seen any divers in 3 years since development- outside of a few Golden Eyes. Got bombed by ringnecks, few teal and woodies before legal. Sat in blind for 30 minutes and decided to shoot a few for my dog.

What part of the county? Im not seeing many birds on ponds that normally hold a bunch in the northern part of the county around Edgewood.

I am seeing a bunch of birds around Talty - but that area always has birds it seems.

Ringnecks'll eat. You can make sausage put out of anything...

Talty seems to get ducks early. I have a moist soil wetland- so I will attract bigger numbers of ducks earlier in the season. BWT season we shot 5-10x birds from previous 3 seasons since I started manipulating water and embracing moist soil. We typically don’t shoot puddle ducks until Dec 7th or so. Starting to see green wing show up earlier. I will hold 200+ on a 5 acre unit when they are in area. I hunt South of I20. Area your talking about, Talty, is well west of us.
