I had the Toyota place in Waco order me a left headlight assembly. They said they’d call when it came in. They did not. I called them, and they had it, and said to come in to have it installed. And, due to a previous screwup on their part, I had a free oil change coming. I drove over this morning early, into the service area. Talked to the service woman and explained what needed to be done. She said an hour for the headlight assembly and an hour for the oil change. So, the wife and I spent the morning running errands and had lunch. Got a call saying all was done, so we went over there. The headlight assembly had not been changed out. There was that woman, so I called her over and asked “What were the two things I asked you to do for my truck 5 hours ago”? She said, uuuuh, you wanted an oil change and an inspection sticker. No No No!. I told her again exactly what I had told her I wanted done the 5 hours ago. She could tell I was mad, and she said she’d get it fixed quick. A few minutes later she called me outside to the truck. Then she said “you don’t have a headlight bulb out, so you don’t need one”. I swear to ya, I almost stroked out. Again I said “It was the HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY”. And I said some other things that might be considered profanity.

There was nothing I said this morning that was the slightest bit vague. Looked her in the eye and explained everything carefully, and even who had the part.

I think I might go back over there to discuss this with the location manager. This was pure incompetence, and I’m still simmering.

It sure is.

I firmly believe this is the result of one generation wanting the next to have it “better than they did.” Suffering is the key to happiness and success. There’s no other way to appreciate it.

The lesson here is to NEVER deal with women when it comes to vehicles… roflmao

It’s the same when I go to the restaurant with a large group and the waitstaff isn’t writing anything down. I ask for different waitstaff.

Management won’t care….they have been beat in to submission by the lowest common denominators of the world. Most are just happy with a warm body that shows up some of the time. We are paying for the lack of accountability at many levels in society over the last 20 years.
I don’t see anything improving out side of another civil war.

My last trip to a Toyota dealer was a must after receiving a letter from Toyota Corporate that clearly stated the catalytic converter on my Tacoma was factory defective and needed to be replaced. When I called to schedule an appointment, the Service Manager told me it needed to be inspected to see if it needed to be replaced. The conversation went south from that point. That was some years ago.

Be glad you call wasn't routed to the Philippines. That $hits getting ridiculous.

I recognized his response (saying it required an inspection) as the first step in recommending other unnecessary service work. Dealers are notorious for that. But as long as there are people who believe dealers provide the best service work, they'll continue to follow that approach.

I would have told her she needs to be fired and got the GM of the dealership and the Service Mgr involved. These were basic work instructions. Fk that stupid [censored] I have NO sympathy or mercy for idiots like this.

Its gotten to the point that I mark my tires so I know if they rotated. I caught them one time. Figure thats one of the services where they can shortcut without people noticing and they also happen to sell tires.

I wouldn't use any shop that didn't write a service ticket in my presence and have me verify it.

This is not new. Thirty years ago I had a vehicle that would suddenly go haywire. It was obviously an electrical problem, probably a bad ground connection somewhere. The gauges would all to full range or zero, the A/C would quit blowing cold air, the power windows would cease to operate. Stopping and turning off the ignition fixed it 95% of the time. If not, turning it off and on a second time always worked. I brought it to the dealer and spent ten minutes explaining the issues. The service rep said it might take a few days. A few days later they called and said I could pick it up. When I got there I learned that all the service rep had written down for the mechanic was "Check A/C".

Since then I've learned to write down everything I want to tell the service rep, and to make a second copy and tape it to the steering wheel for the mechanic to read because I cannot rely on the service rep passing on good information regardless of how carefully I explain things.

I have two unwritten rules:
1.
2.

I’m pretty sure if you texted it to her she would’ve been on point.

These companies can't get workers, much less competent workers. Many Americans have decided not to work and I guess our corrupt government doesn't mind paying them to make that possible.

Seems like our Federal government is at the root of MANY of our problems these days.

I had worked with the woman for years. She had never let me down before. I told her what I wanted, watched her write down something, and off I went with the wife. She probably did write down what I wanted done, sent the truck off for an oil change and never looked at the ticket again. Who knows…?

I’m not going to go over there and raise hell with the service manager. The woman screwed up and ruined my day, but I don’t want her fired a month before Christmas. It’s just a headlight assembly, not an engine problem, so the truck runs fine, and I rarely drive at night anyway.

I was really po’d, but have calmed down. Regardless of what my mother said, The universe doesn’t revolve around me. As I remember, the USMC later explained reality to me quite clearly.
