Well, I'm still recovering from my failure at the Big Lake Bottom WMA archery hunt, but it helps to start looking forward to my rifle hunt at Pat Mayse (Dec 3,4,5).

Has anyone had any success out there this season, during the drawn hunts or with the bow?

I've started pouring over the topo maps and there is a LOT of space to look over. Not needing to get too specific about spots, but does anyone have any advice? I haven't been before, and not knowing our compartment, I'm not sure a scouting trip would be very beneficial.

Any advice or just impressions from previous years would be greatly appreciated!

Nice place to hunt. Lot of deer on the edges on the west side. Near the cemetary, The problem is there are acorns everywhere and deer are a bit hard to pattern.

Thanks for the reply! The compartments on the west side look good to me (more edges, pinch points). Not sure how they do compartment selection, but that's probably where I'll focus if given the chance.

They sent out compartments yesterday and we got 7a/7b, which are on the west side near the cemetery. We'll see how it goes. Looks like a really good area with a lot of diversity. Pretty accessible though, which is a negative for me. Probably gets more pressure during the season.

Season is bow only so I wouldn't worry, have a good time and a good hunt.
