Started to have a well drilled about 8 years ago when we bought the place but time and money went elsewhere…. We got three bids in June. All were about the same money but two were for the cased hole only. Third one included the pump and pressure tank. It was also the one a local builder recommended. The first two were 4-8 months out. The other would be drilling in our area in a month or so and would work us in.

First had to move my firewood pile because I have a 1 1/2” line to the house already there if we want to tie in easy spot. I thought I had 10-14 days to get the spot ready when the called Wednesday evening saying that that customer had to push out and the rig would be at our house Friday afternoon….we spent a hurried evening and next day getting the spot ready with a lot of help from my two teenage grandsons!

Once the well was dug I laid out the well house for electric and water lines.

Next year we will be adding a 25’x40’ covered cooking/firewood storage area so I ran water and electric to it too. Also will have a skinning rack with large stainless table/sink out there. I used pvc to roughly lay out the covered area.

Built the manifold, ran power and water lines then poured the slab. I have 100amp service at the well house and 80amp to the smoke shack.

My advice would be to build a good well house, big free as possible, and insulate.

Built the walls and roof under the carport shade then assembled on site. The roof sits on the walls and can be unbolted and slid forward to access the well if necessary.

Always neat to see the water coming up from the ground and your wellhouse looks very nice.
I would recommend you get a ram bit, for the size pvc you used in the piping. They can be a real lifesaver with pipe through a poured floor. We found out this year how convenient they are.

I'm always impressed by the workmanship you all show, lots of great builders and craftsmen on here for sure.

That’s a neat tool! I filled the all the holes with the pipes that might have to be dug up with pea gravel with a 2” clay cap. Then built a dam filled with pea gravel around all the pipes before I poured the slab. This hopefully will accommodate shifting soils and any future necessary repairs. I also have the two center pipes on the manifold capped under the slab for future lines.

Looks great Jes. Might want some gutters on the roof to reduce ponding and erosion around the slab. That will help with preventing movement too.

I noticed you took good precautions in case of issues. The well house spouse was working in did not, hence a plumber and the ram bit.
Looks great !

I got lots of great advice from many friends throughout this build….the pea gravel dam in the slab came from BigPig (Wade)….

Good idea. Already doing dirt work around the building to ensure drainage away from the building
