I enjoyed a good weekend with my son and brother this weekend on a crane hunt. There were a ton of birds, even a few geese and ducks mixed in. Just getting them to do what we wanted, where we wanted proved to be a little difficult though. We had a great time and look forward to doing it again!

I see them all the time, flying over when I deer hunt. Sometimes within extreme range, but I'm on the wrong side of Hwy 81 where they are protected. I really love to hear and see them, though.

We have them at our place in Young County as well. Like you said, they're usually a mile high and have no thoughts of slowing down. I have always wanted to shoot one, just never had the opportunity. A college roommate of mine farms up near Pampa and invited us up. We'll be back for sure!

Nice pics and nice shooting!

When I read Sandhills I thought Nebraska at first then saw the cranes, they don't hunt them in NE. I made the mistake one time of asking someone in Nebraska about crane hunting and you would have thought I asked to buy their kid, they love those cranes over there.

Congrats on the hunt.

Great birds and a beautiful photo. I used to do a lot of sandhill decoying back in ND years ago. A very neat experience! Congratulations!!

Congrats!

Sandhills winter near my place in the Panhandle and I must say I've never seen a more wary bird. Their eyesight must be better than your average feathered quarry.

Taste great, though!
