To the SOB that parked 20 yards past my decoys in my line of fire @ 8 am opener.
I got up at 3am and walked a long way for opener. Just because you suck at duck hunting or are lazy and decide to go "scout" at 8 am on opening day doesn't give you the right to screw up someone else hunt or think the world revolves around you. You may know a land owner or have permission to cut through their land but the land you are driving he doesn't own and you are in violation with public hunting laws by having a vehicle on it. Also just to screw up someone else hunt given that birds were possibly coming into my dekes saw your truck then landed elsewhere causing me to miss them warrants you a fine. I hope the 3 shots I fired on the birds was a warning to you not to be an ahole and 8am on an opener at that. DBAG!!
It sure would be horrible if birds happen to fly over your truck next time.
PS learn the difference between real birds and dekes with a MOJO instead of staring at my spread for 10 minutes.

Just curious but what makes you think whoever did it is a member of this forum? I feel your pain but doubt the rant gets to who it needs to get to.

I don't but if they are there ya go If not it's just advise for anyone contemplating just ignoring that there are other hunters out there. Common courtesy should be a staple for the hunting community especially on public land. Just my opinion.

Common courtesy should be a staple for the hunting community especially on public land I agree it should be, but it’s not. Hunting public you see your share of arrogant arseholes

You could have always had a calm discussion with the perp, instead of this passive aggressive nonsense.

If it was 200 yards it could have been me. Probably more like 400 yards, got a late start for the opener, long story.

Sorry, that sucks for you but worse to be such an inconsiderate idiot that would do something like you describe. One year I was without a lease, hunted public for deer. I learned that if anybody can show up, just about anyone will. I now do a public hunt every now and then for the challenge. It's so hard, have to walk so far and pack it out a really, really long way none of the types we're talking about are anywhere around.
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

Shooting at someone's truck is a good way to get yourself shot at, be an adult. Next time make a call and turn them in if they were driving on a closed road or area, take a pic and make the call.

PS learn the difference between real birds and dekes with a MOJO instead of staring at my spread for 10 minutes. I guess its bound to happen with the numbers of hunters these days but maybe I'm fortunate. I just do not have these types of encounters on public. I have had a few over the last 8 years or so come in and ask me if they can hunt with me but I can count them on one hand and not fill it up. In your scenario I would have walked over and had a discussion with the dude. If he would not listen to my reasoning (which would have included an invite to hunt together) I would have assured him he would be wasting his time as there would be no birds shot by him if it was screwing up my hunting also. But then maybe he would have left after I was done with my scolding of him, with words I cannot use here.

At that range, why didn’t you say something to him? This. As soon as the truck was heading your way you could have gotten out of your blind and waved him off. If he didn't get the hint, walk over and clear things up. Most likely as soon as he saw you he would have turned around. Otherwise it would be considered hunter harassment. Cell phone video goes a long way towards your case.

It's frustrating no doubt and goes with the territory of hunting public land. ElkOne nailed it in his post " lack of courtesy is a sickness in this country". Courtesy should be extended to anyone posting their experience online with this group as well - not just in the field...... Jobst - I appreciate this thread you started.
I hunted a public place for the 1st time Sunday with my two older boys who are in college. I want them to learn how to hunt vs having an expectation to show up to a private duck lease and kill a limit in 20 min. We have access to both scenarios.
I had them scout the evening before. There were places we looked at online and when they got there - a truck was already parked in one of the spots they wanted to scout. I told them to move on - don't disturb someone else's hunt. They found ducks on the water in 3 other places.
Sunday we got up at 3:00 am. Made it to the parking spot at 4:30 am. Had dekes in the water and set up by 5:05 am. 15 min before legal shooting time - we hear a vehicle stuck on the side of the side of the road near where we parked. Another person was helping push them out. The helper was a deer hunter. After the truck was "unstuck" the two men talked - LOUDLY - for 15 min. Ducks came in - we rolled two. The convo stopped. Throughout the morning - we saw the deer hunter skirting the area we were hunting. Birds flared away both times he got close. We still killed 7 ducks. When our hunt was over, we got out to my truck and the guy who got stuck sprayed mud all over the front of my truck and windshield trying to get unstuck. Not sure why he would park where he did. People are just dumb sometimes.
I was able to use the scouting session and our morning hunt as a lesson for my boys - be considerate, don't let actions of others - regardless of how frustrating it is control you. Common courtesy is more than lip service. It's lived not spoken ........

You could have always had a calm discussion with the perp, instead of this passive aggressive nonsense. What a novel idea. I've found that some people that do this kind of thing are genuinely ignorant. Walk over, explain why what he's doing is out of line, and ask him to move. ......if he doesn't, then pepper his pickup..... ....not really though....
