Was out dove hunting today on public land in North Texas and flushed two woodcock (woodcocks?). I know they're more common in eastern and southeastern parts of the state, but have ya'll seen many in North Texas? I was hunting an area between Dallas and the Red River.

I have killed a few in the creek bottom on my Young county lease, so they do stray west at times. I have seen them while rabbit hunting Ray Bob, but they are not legal game there. I have written TPWD twice trying to get them listed as legal game there, and emailed with the game manager for that unit once, but it never gets added.

Used to hunt them in Wolfe City along the creek and found several each time out. They were there or they weren't. I believe it was a stop-over on the way further South.

Oh nice! I thought I saw one a few years back while duck hunting in Denton County, but wasn't sure. Now I am! Thanks for the info. It's cool to see them from time to time.
