Thought this photo was interesting proof that coyotes will attack bigger deer, not just fawns.

Are you sure the buck isn’t attacking the coyote?

Guess it depends whose side one favors.

Guts hanging out of the deer, I think we know who the aggressor is.

The pic is so bad I can’t tell if that’s guts or brush or what. If if it’s guts, I bet it wasn’t just one of them.

I see it now. 30 dollar cameras suck. I still bet there wasn’t just one.

That landowner is running 75 cameras. Fifty are Reconyx at $500 each. These were a $100. If you want to buy him some more Reconyx, doubtless he would appreciate the help.

Years back, my cousin said he watched a bunch of coyotes tag teaming a buck. They finally took it down. He was bow hunting, so couldn’t pick off the coyotes.

A few years ago, they dropped rabies vaccine from planes. Now they should drop coyote killing stuff from planes and eradicate the wormy bastards.

Years ago a guy that leased pasture from us got hired to clear another place of sheep. Nobody had been checking them. They pulled 300 ewes and THREE lambs off the place. Coyotes had killed over 200 lambs. They took hot dogs and cut them about 1-2” in length and injected them with some sort of cotton spray. I think they put out 1000 baits. We didn’t see any type of Varmint for over a year.

Saw a nature special once that ranked pack animals and their ability to organize a hunt. Wolves were first and coyotes were second. Pretty amazing how cunning they are. I sure miss m y Curley. He was a coyote killing machine.

I just pulled these pics from a video.

The first pic is the buck realizing something is up, the second shot you can see the coyotes eyes glowing on the left and the buck starts moving, shot 3 you see the coyote hauling after the buck

That would be timic.
Very dangerous to the user. Nickname is two step.

Can kill multiple animals…like if it killed the coyote, whatever ate the coyote died also.

Temik. Interesting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aldicarb

Pretty sure we found more than a couple of buzzards that ate some of the varmints. FTR, I was ~11 years old at the time and not involved in any way with what happened.

Better than average chance the buck was wounded and or sick.
A coyote or even 2 is not match for a healthy mature buck in normal circumstances.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

ILB,

I used to think the same, but saw a healthy young buck with his back side ripped open by coyotes just a few weeks ago. That changed my mind and is what prompted me to start this thread.

I also posted it on another forum. Take a look at the photos posted by Gringo Loco on this thread and some of the comments.

Once had a doe come running out of the woods and she was not running real hard, but she looked tired. Behind her was a coyote closing in, and she decided to run the length of the field. Directly after that, 2 more coyotes came out of the woods just kind of loping along. By the time I got the rifle up and out the window the doe was quite a ways off, but the other 2 were at the right distance and a good angle. Managed 2 roll both of them and when I looked at the end of the field and the first coyote broke of his chase.

Later Father told me they had come by him, but he did not have a chance at them.

Coyotes do not get a walk on my place.

I remember an old Jackie Bushman video where a coyote was chasing a deer in Alabama. I’ll have to see if I can dig it up.

I let a coyote walk this past weekend while sitting in my blind. He popped out early into the hunt and i didn't want to mess up my deer hunt too early by shooting him... i guess i need to rethink my decision for next time...

Yes, I saw that other post.
I can see multiple coyotes taking down a mature healthy buck, but not a single one doing it.

Years ago, when I was up in the blind (don’t remember what I was hunting), a doe came blasting out of the woods, ran across the power line ROW, stopped and turned. I assumed a buck was chasing her, but here came a coyote at a slow walk. I blasted him. Then a fawn stood up from the brush right behind the doe. She was gonna defend her fawn. I was glad to assist.

nice work 603----

killing coyotes should be a priority for all deer hunters!!

I knocked the eye balls out of a female yote on opening day afternoon hunt and don't feel the least bit bad about messing up my deer hunt.

BTW---a few years ago, I was hunting power line and a young 4-5 pt ran across and about 30 seconds later a group of 4-5 yotes were standing out in the middle of that powerline. I leveled the largest one---no questions asked
