My bumper pull TT has developed a roof leak at the seam where the rubber roof meets the front metal. I made a temp repair with caulk and roof tape. It’s a 2010 model I bought 2 years ago and plan on keeping for a long while. The rubber roof has reached the end of its lifespan. I got a quote yesterday on a roof coating job for $2750. Anybody know how close that price is to replacing the old rubber with new rubber roof? I did the coating myself 12 years ago on another camper the same size. The material was $500 back then, so I’d assume it’s probably $750 now. Most of this operation is labor cost, and I just don’t want to it myself now. It took 2 long days the last time. Also it’s parked near trees now, and leaves would end up in the coating before it dried.

Is this stationary RV or you take it on the road? If stationary, you could do a roll roofing for cheap and easy...

The whole roof is in need of replacement, just not the leaking location. I’m not up to coating the whole roof myself these days.

My cheap FEMA camper I bought for the deer lease developed some roof leaks. We have no electric so I cleaned the roof smooth (took off A/C, vent stacks etc) installed 3/8 inch plywood over the entire roof and then installed TPO over the plywood. Your protrusions would need flashing but TPO is the best for a camper roof imo. If your camper is parked in the open I'd find another route than a coating....best dam thing for any RV is a canopy to park them under to protect from the elements. Factory roofs on these junk on wheels are garbage at best.

I agree that’s the right way to do it. But I’m not gonna do it myself. And the cost for remove and replace with TPO is probably 50% of what the TT is worth.

Lying is lying. Don't bitch about one doing it and condone another. That's called hypocrisy.

I’d rather keep some money and fix my junk.

I would diffinetly get at least 3 quotes on the replacement.
Instead of a RV place might check with a TPO ROOFER FOR A QUOTE

New roof is your best bet. Remove old rubber roofing, inspect the Lauan and roof bows underneath. Do any repairs necessary. Glue down new rubber roof, trim back excess, install new trim at front and rear cap and seal it off. All new sealant around anything penetrating the roof (AC units, Pipe Vent, Vent fans, antenna's, etc).

Good for another 10-12 years with bi-yearly cleaning and treatment.

Keeping a trailer/camper roof covered (if you can) will extend the life of it more than anything else. The Sun, Acid Rain and debris can really take a toll on them.

In the OP’s case I’d use EternaBond tape to patch and Dicor EPDM rubber roof coating over the entire roof

Thanks for the replies!
I went to Camping World this morning and picked up 2 tubes of Dicor roof caulk and a roll of Eternabond tape. Got the old putty and caulk scraped off, replaced a couple screws on the metal trim piece where the rubber meets the front metal. I got the caulk on and am waiting for it to dry before applying the Eternabond tape. Had leftover caulk, so hit all the other roof openings with some new caulk. This should give me some time to shop for a new roof. Called 1/2 dozen places yesterday, only 2 actually answered the phone. Wouldn’t give ballpark # over the phone, want to see it in person. I need to find a small independent place, instead of the big repair shops.

Composition roll roof would be easy and cheap, and last at least 5 years or more. Put it right over the old roof. You could use roof cement to secure it to the roof. I never put it on an RV before, but I did many composition roll roofs in my time...It has been many years tho..

Correct. Don't use FlexSeal on rubber roofs. Dicor products (rubber roof material, caulk and self leveling sealants) are pretty much the industry standard for both new construction and repair.

Any reputable repair facility will want to inspect the trailer. It's difficult to determine is any substructure is damaged without seeing the unit or peeling back the roofing material. It also makes a difference if you have wooden trusses and roof-bows or have aluminum construction.

When I was in the RV business a 're-roof' with minimal Lauan repair would run about $150.00 a lineal foot. I'm sure its more these days.

Sometimes you can find a skilled person who does this (on the side). But I can tell you for certain.....you can only 'patch' the roof for so long before you begin to get substructure damage and then its a whole 'nother ball game. When its time to re-roof, re-roof it.....or sell it.

This number and name are from old info I had. If memory serves me Carlisle sells roofing material, TPO I think. At the time they furnished roofing material to Dicor and others. I spoke to him about buying the material and someone who works for his company was going to install.
Maybe this will help. As someone mentioned Eternabond Tape is great.
