What are ya'll seeing as it pertains to the RUT?
I am in Freestone County and the bucks are cruising A LOT, but I am not seeing the chasing I would expect for this area. I am seeing a fair number of broken antlers so I know the T levels are jacked, but does don't appear to be that nervous.
Acorns are everywhere----everywhere!!
What are ya'll seeing??

From this weekend in Stephens County, I saw about 10-12 bucks total, multiple of the same on each hunt. I had a nice 8 point come cruising in to check out the location and he left quickly. All the other one's hit both my feeders hard. I generally have a lot of does, but I only saw 2 this weekend. The bucks' hocks were also not nearly as stained as I've seen during the rut. I saw a nice 8 and a nice 10 point, and both had no interest in chasing yet. Rut usually kicks up about the second week of Nov for us. So we have about a week or more to go. I did have 2 small bucks start sparing and playing. One was a spike and one was a tiny 4 point. They were entertaining for about 10-15 minutes. The reports from other hunters on our place was the same. Nothing yet.

Saw some play fighting, some chase and paw for a short period of time. I think next weekend may be great.
Hamilton County.
You have to remember, they might not be drinking as much as we are.

Mills county, saw two mature bucks locked up with does yesterday afternoon. One of them lacked for headgear, maybe 110" 9pt, but his body was something else. He looked like the Pillsbury doughboy jiggling off after her when she took off. Out typical peak of the ~13th looks to be about right.

It’s most certainly on here. I didn’t go out this morning due to no camera action for 2 days. But, a decent buck was on the hunt about 9 am here in the yard. Thinking that was good sign, I went to a blind (with coffee and a good book). Saw nothing for a while, so poured some coffee. Just as I did, there was a big shootable buck about 275 yards off. He was moving like a wall-horsed cowboy heading for a cathouse. I spilled coffee, but was too slow getting the gun up. Oh, well, he can sow his wild oats. I wanted a doe anyway.

No rut in Briscoe County. Saw bucks making scrapes and rubs, two in a decent fight, but no interactions at all with does. Plan is here in two weeks, I'll be back to see some trailing, tending, chasing, followed by some great hunting.

I’m also in Freestone county. Only see small bucks chasing doe’s. Deer aren’t going to corn or food plots. So far this is the slowest opening week ever for me here. Good luck to everyone else!

Probably get blasted for these comments, but oh well. When you only see little bucks chasing, it is because the older bucks are on lock down with a doe or there just isn't many older bucks to view. We know that in most free range herd in Texas, the percentage of older bucks is far lower than that of younger bucks. Now, I will say this.... each deer has a different temperament. Some are lazy and some are horny as can be. The old adage of the old bull and young bull on the hill overlooking the cows just isn't true. It just sounds cool. When the first does start to come in, the older bucks want to breed just as bad as the little ones. There just are fewer of them around to see them chasing. The little ones do not chase first. They all chase.

IMO that's not the case at all. Mature bucks are well seasoned, and have seen this game before. They know how much time and energy they will use to chase and breed does and like humans, the older they get the less energy they have. Younger bucks do not, and they are willing to use whatever means necessary to chase and harrass does even before they are ready to breed. Bigger bucks will hang around the does and younger bucks, but be much less visible, and will only expend the extra energy when it is time to "lockdown" and eventually breed. They absolutely know when the does start to ovulate and be ready. All this occurs basically the same time every year, as the does estrus is triggered by the photoperiod, or length of daylight. At least at our place in the TX Panhandle, the chasing phase is kicking in, but breeding will be a week or two later.

Lots of chasing and tending in the last 10-12 days, mature bucks and smaller bucks. Been to Maverick County recently but their rut is a month + away.
