So there I was, minding my own business on a Sunday afternoon, with the adaptive cruise control set at 80, South bound on 59 near Edna, when this buck comes running full speed at me from the grass median. I swerved best I could to miss him, but he caught the back door and rear quarter panel. I saw him flipping thru the air in my rearview mirror and almost land on a car. Then he got up, ran across the ditch, up a fenceline, and laid down. When I walked up on him he raised his head once and stopped breathing. I’m grateful it wasn’t worse. We missed tboning him by a nano second.

Tenderize venison….. food

Seriously, glad it wasn’t worse! Rolled up on a little Toyota a young gal was driving seconds after one about that size went over the hood, through the windshield, and joined her in the passenger seat. Thankfully she was mostly just shaken up….not so much for the buck. Had he joined her in the drivers seat it too would have been much worse

That was one high price projectile you took that buck out with.
Glad it was not in the middle of the grill.

I have seen a deer go through a windshield on Williams Drive in Georgetown Texas - it was not pretty - demolished the inside of the lady's car

Yeah, just think....if you'd been going 85 you'd have never even seen him, 79 mph and it might have been a head on, or you could just slow down (to say 70 or so) and probably see these things coming, who knows.

Game warden will issue you a permit for him if you contact them. Saw a car hit a doe over by Athens once, hit her in the neck. Called the game warden and he came to the scene, looked around a little and issued me a permit to salvage the meat.

He was just doing what the side of your truck says! If you can’t dodge it…

In all seriousness, glad everything turned out alright and nobody in the truck was harmed. Scary situation.

Had a doe hit us in Wyoming years ago. Ran right into the left quarter panel behind the headlight. The wife was driving and held it straight because it was either a head-on or the ditch on the right. Called the insurance company and said a deer hit us, the lady said you mean you hit a deer? I said no the deer hit us. Anyway it was a $3K auto body bill and the deer was the only causality.

Hard way to get your buck. Glad it's just minor damage.

Not sure why i’m responding to this, but the speed limit was 75 and it’s a wide open stretch of highway. Having a buck cross that highway at noon was unexpected to say the least.

Glad you're okay and the buck expired relatively quickly. I had one of our auditors come into the office a few years back and we were talking about my deer season, which had just started. He was up a deer on me, having hit two deer in two different states with two different rental cars. Needless to say, he wasn't as happy with his season as I was with mine.

That really sucks man.
Sorry it happened to you.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Glad you are okay. I hit a doe some years ago and had scrapes up the windshield of the car...still can't believe the glass held and I did not have a carpool passenger.

I MAY have hit one a few months ago. Never saw it but heard a thump. Pulled over and couldnt find a sign of anything dead on road, but I had a nice clean stripe along bottom of door and bed with a very small dent back by bumper. Only thing I can figure is I barely got it and it ran back the way it came, although I never saw it in the mirror.

Constant danger most anywhere you drive these days.

Bummer on the buck and the truck, glad no one was hurt.

About 5 years ago a friend of ours that lives in Oregon and drives semi's for a living had an encounter with an elk.

Below is how his wife described the encounter.

"An elk jumped out of the meadian in LaGrande and went thru windshield. The truck is totaled. Roger escaped with some cuts from windshield"

His truck!

I know they used to do it sometimes, but I don't think they can do it anymore. They didn't want people running down deer out of season and claiming it was an accident to get the meat

Pity, that was a good looking deer.

Actually, a pretty good buck! Sorry for your truck and glad you're not hurt. About a decade ago, my wife hit one deer one year and then the next year a deer ran into the side of her car. The next year after that my son hit a buck. Three accidents in three years, all either inside Victoria, Texas, city limits or just outside near our home in Inez.
