Wondering if anyone has experience with this.

Do you think a rifle will sell better with or without a scope?

Let's assume the scope isn't a POS and it's quality is on par with the gun.

Does that make it more or less desirable?

I'd be selling it on gunbroker and the scope is a leupold vari x IIc 3-9x but that's beside the point.

Cheers

(if you must know it's a Ruger M77 tang safety 25-06. Tried selling it on here before but no dice)

Without the scope. But offer it with the deal.

That scope adds zero to that rifle in my opinion. The rifle is very desirable in my opinion. The scope is a solid $200 here or elsewhere. 2cents

Ive sold 2 rifles in the past year with the scope. Alot of buyers dont want to mess with mounting, leveling, sighting in a scope and just want a turn key package. Im always ok with splitting it up but then alot of times it just takes longer.

WO the scope. The chances of your scope being what the new owner wants on it is slim. 40+ years ago there weren’t the options in optics there are now so it was more common back then.

If an ad includes a scope i always try to bargain for a lower price without it. I do not care what cost some guy $600 in 2003 and was top of the line back then. Its not now and I don’t want it. I want to put what I want on it.

When I buy a rifle, unless the scope is exactly what I want on the rifle (rare), I put $0.00 value on the scope that comes with it.

I can believe that, especially if it's a decent scope. Makes sense that at some of those looking for a used firearm are looking for something that's field ready and not necessarily new.

I've bought scoped rifles to get the rifle or to get the scope; never because I wanted both.

IME it's a hit or miss thing. It will either help sell the rifle but won't increase the sale price. I just sell them with the OEM sights or no sights if that's the way they came from the factory. Better to discount the price of the rifle if you want a quick sale and you never know what purpose you'll have for a spare scope as time goes on.

Same, or maybe half of what I think I can resell the scope for.

Most of my stuff has no scope. Scope doesn't appeal to me unless it's exactly the combo I am looking for which is utterly impossible.

I hope the average seller will read this topic.

I would price it without and add the option as stated above.

Pass the gravy.

Rifle and scope would be sold as separate items. The rifle carries more value all by itself. And even if the scope is very high end, it will not bring retail. If the scope is low end, figure out what few dollars you can get for it, and move it along.

Normally selling without the scope is the better option. However rifle season starts this weekend so now is about your best shot to sell a combo. The caliber is hurting you more than anything else. If it’s not 6.5 no one is interested.

Rifle without scope. Scope is worthless to me unless it's EXACTLY what I prefer.

Very seldom am i interested in the scope. Same can be said for having 8 partial boxes of ammo, all different loads.

Yep, like most others are saying, unless it's a lucky break and the scope is exactly what I'm looking for, I only want the rifle. Personally if I were listing it for sale I would post a price with and without the scope to give people an option.

I base price on the bare gun.

One of the big shops around here, at least from what I can tell, if a rifle comes in with a decent scope on it, the scope gets taken off and put in a glass case for sale and the rifle gets put on the rack with just the rings on it. If it comes in with a cheap scope on it the scope stays on the rifle.

Reason I say that is because I have never seen a rifle on the shelf with a decent scope on it and they have a glass case full of nice used scopes.

So in my mind that says the best thing to do money wise is take the Leopold off and sell the rifle without a scope, or put a cheap scope on it if you have one laying around.

Funny but I always buy without the scope until this last upper purchase I made. It was a 6mm ARC and had a Burris Fullfield E1 on it. I thought I would be taking it off the first thing and mounting the scope off my other rifle that was going up for sale. Wound up liking it so much that I sold the other two scopes and bought another E1 for my other AR.

I always list with or without and let the buyer choose. About 60% of the time, I have sold them with the scope.
