Have any of you used a LPVO for hunting? I have a 1-6x24 on one of my AR's and at 1X it is almost as quick as a red dot. Seems like it would work great for walking through brush and jump shooting hogs or whatever. 6X is enough power to make shots at normal hunting distances. I am guessing with the small tube they don't do well in low light?

I have owned this scope for at least 5 years but haven't shot it much. It seems like it would be good for hunting in some situations but I don't think I have ever seen someone use a scope like this for hunting.

my favorite optic for an AR has always been the Leupold VX-R 1.5-4X. It has a 30mm main tube, lets in a lot of light, and even has a "red Dot" built in. I have no clue why they dropped this model when they changed all off their product line. Push the button and the instant red dot was ideal for both short range and speed. For hunting the 4X worked out to couple of hundred yards without a problem.

I'm a big fan of the LVPO for the reasons you say. 1x when I'm walking around, 6x when I'm waiting for game. If you crank down to 1x it helps a lot in low light and you're probably not going to be shooting very far in low light anyway.

One of the finest affordable is the Steiner P4Xi 1-4. A true 1x (which most 1x's are not a true 1x)

agree with Doug on the Steiner!

the only downside to them is they do not work as well in very low light as a scope with a bigger objective.

I have an LPVO on a CZ 550 in 9.3x62 which is a pretty big thumper. They were always rather common on dangerous game type rifles before they became extremely popular on ARs.

Why would anyone use anything else for a do-all AR??

The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

I don't know. 1-6X, 1-8X, 1-10X can cover all the bases for an AR-15.

ACOG fixed 4X, no thanks.

Red Dot, only 1X, no thanks.

3-_X no thanks.
