What's the best light you've used for blood trailing?

I bought one of the primos hand held blood lights, and it does a great and disgusting job of showing every place your pets have had accidents on your rugs and carpets, but it’s more-or-less useless for its primary task of following blood trails. It does seem very well made though.

Led headlamp. I'm not exactly looking for blood because where I am lots of things are red this time of year.Blood and everything else that drops out of a deer reflects a wet shine.
My wife bought a blood trail blacklight. It's useless.

Coleman lantern, especially for us red/green, blue/green color blind folks. I’ll 2nd the old Coleman lantern. Haven't found a better light yet for blood trails after dark.

During the day you can turn over leaves, etc. to look for blood. The deer will push through underbrush, turning the branch, and in many instances the blood gets on the bottom/underside of the leaf. Tracking at night is very difficult- a dog would help.

I'll 3rd the coleman lantern 4th the suggestion. I prefer them because they flood an area with light so the eyes can scan more easily in all directions, including down. I'll never forget the time a fellow hunter came and asked me to help him find his buck. He had been looking for almost two hours with no success. Shortly after I began looking I noticed it laying at the edge of the water in a stock tank, below the bank where it could be easily overlooked by the beam of a flashlight. He admitted he had circled the stock tank several times but never noticed the buck laying near the bottom of the bank.

Coleman lantern, spray bottle of peroxide can help as well, foams nicely when it is sprayed on blood, this time of year there are tons of red leaves in many of the woods.

Coleman Lantern is not the most convenient thing to carry while blood trailing, but they are pretty hard to beat for casting a light that is useful.
I line the backside of the glass cylinder with Aluminum Foil to keep all the light shining forward and of course always carry an extra set of mantles and matches.
A heavy blood trail doesn't require anything special. ANY source of light will do for that. But when you have a sparse blood trail (a drop or smear every 10'-20') it really helps to bathe the area in a softer light.
