Who has been?
Were you successful?
What state did you go to and why did you choose that state?

For me I went twice back in the early 2000’s. I went up to the Frank Church in Idaho because I wanted to see some beautiful country while experiencing something unique. I’m from south Ms, and no one I knew of at the time was interested in going, so I found an outfitter and went…twice. Wasn’t the greatest dogs, but we saw some tracks, chased one, and I saw some beautiful country. Never got one though.

I’m starting to get the itch again. Probably start heading down the road of looking for the right outfitter. I think this time I’ll stay away from wolf country. That seemed to be one of the issues on my hunts.

Anyone can pm me with advice and recommendations if you don’t want to respond on the forum. I come visit here every now and again and figured there were some experienced members here.

Thanks

I went to Colorado. Right after a fresh snow and we cut tracks on 3 adult lions and a few cubs before 11:00AM the first day. We treed and took two adult lions that morning (in addition to another hunter taking a “cull” 3x3 mule deer that scored 170 inches if I remember correctly. PM me for more info.

I’ve hunted with Joe every year for last 7 years for lots of different species . Just killed a bear with him a few weeks back. If I was booking lion hunt he is who I would recommend. He hunts both rigged and from horse/mule back.

After Joe it would be Wade Eckles in AZ

Wade’s contact

If you want a guy in Idaho, i know a guy in northern Idaho but I haven’t hunted with him just met him on mountain and talked to people that have.

How good of a rider do you have to be? I always thought that would be the ultimate way.

Not much. Mules and horses are just for trails where roads end. Essentially Designated wilderness.

My advice bear or lion. Be able to hike, just don’t set in a couch. Not saying you have to ultra fit, just a little bit of mental resiliency

If you are in to Dry Ground Mt Lion hunting look up Warner Glenn in SE Arizona. I haven't been with him or his daughter but they have been running dogs in SE Arizona and Mexico for at least 50 years. I've talked about him with some of the guides I use in Arizona. He is well known. He uses mules.

Dry ground is a whole different hunt than a winter snow hunt.

I've heard there are a couple guys who do it in TX. I think if I ever put down the $ to do it I'd want one from TX.

License would be cheaper for a Texas cat for sure than an out of state license so weigh that in as well.

Doubt he has seen this thread but would check with Gary Roberson on here I am sure he knows several

I know it’s hunting, but say you went with a top guide

What is the average success rate?
