Ever had crows come in squawking up a storm right when a deer comes to the corn? Weird situation last Saturday but it was almost like the crows were trying to run the deer off of the feeder. I was thinking to myself "do those crows see me up here in this tree and are warning the deer I am there"?

Crows are just greedy opportunists, and are calling their fellow birds in when the grub gets scattered. They have great eyesight, and can tell what the little yellow grains of corn are from a good ways off. I've always hand scattered a few gallons of corn here and there, and they can spot it in tall grass or underneath brush. Crows and coons get fatter from deer feeders than any deer ever do

Crows will always have a look out. Find him and eliminate him and you are in business.

Last year I was in my pop up blind and started rattling. I haven’t rattled in years….really never to amount to anything. A big group of crows went insane and swarmed my stand going crazy like I was calling them. Later I found a dead crow hid in the brush that I used to brush in my stand. Maybe they thought whatever got that one was back. Idk, but it was interesting.

If the crows land at my corn I know my camo is working. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/10/full-57808-366157-813ba91a_6427_4e3f_9f28_e829d77a34cf.jpeg)

I've seen cases where squirrels will use their alert chatter to let you know when they see deer or hogs in addition to predators who happen through their area. Of course, this makes squirrels a friend of hunters and an enemy of deer.

It's not just crows, and I've had other birds raise cain that something wasn't just right and I'm sure they alerted the deer with the commotion.
Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Spent many years in the mountains of Colorado and Montana bowhunting and when you hear the Ravens it was very common to find the elk as well. Not sure how that relationship worked.

Last year, on the last day of deer season, right at sunrise and for an hour a damn crow kept circling between my blind, and my friend in the other blind about 800 yards away, squawking the whole time. I texted my buddy and said "are you hearing this bird?", he did. I swear this bastard had a deal with the deer to let them know we may not be visible from the ground, but we were from the air, maybe in exchange for a little corn set aside for his efforts.

Of course, this makes squirrels a friend of hunters and an enemy of deer. Can't count how many times I've heard squirrels barking and then a bigger animal walks out within a couple minutes. It's all good until one busts you and sits there for ever barking, trying to get you to move.
