So as I’m sure many of you like myself like to enjoy a drink or two while you’re out for dinner. What do you do to protect yourself on the drive home and possibly being stopped by the police? Obviously, don’t get drunk but I’m just saying maybe you have a strong drink unintentionally. Just curious if you guys have drink limits, time limits, etc..

I don't have more than two drinks if I am going to be driving. When I am out at a restaurant or whatever I rarely drink anything but beer so two beers is a pretty safe limit I think. The only time I drink more than that when I am not at home is at some sort of get together and then I will have my wife drive. She might drink six beers a year.

One drink per hour, max, and that's with food. I'm a large guy and usually have a large meal. However, I'm usually also close to home and if I do have a drink at dinner, it's maybe 6-8 times in a year. If I thought for any reason I'd be close to the legal limit, UBER or LYFT and come get the truck tomorrow.

I don’t drink anything and drive, that’s wrong any way you look at it. I guess if your family got taken out by a buzzed driver you could sleep better at night knowing they weren’t 100% drunk said no one ever.

I'll admit I've had several beers and driven home. You flip the coin, I guess. If I'm going somewhere far (not that it matters) I'll have someone else drive, a non-drinker.

If I'm just going a few miles like from Frisco to Grandscape (where Scheels is) I'll just Uber, $50 vs $50,000 and jail. Pretty good investment.

Please still be my friend

Probably most of us on here grew up in Texas driving when drinking age was 19, having a beer in the car and drinking and driving was legal.

I can still drive home if I did have a few drinks at a bar, no biggie. I am not a eat and drink type of person, I don't like mixing food with alcholol.

Zero, my number is zero. I will not have a drink and drive. I’m not self righteous mind you, I learned the hard way with a driving award. Hang out with a few mothers that have lost their children to drunk drivers. The classes were part of my deal but I think everyone should go to a victim impact panel. Should part of drivers Ed. Except at 15-16 you’re not listening.

I sure as hell don’t judge though, I earned my stripes.

Why is it wrong?

Perfectly legal in Texas to have a beer or cocktail while operating a boat.

I rarely drink when I am on the lake fishing, but when the day is over with and we are going to rent a house or trailer for the night and fishing the next day, I may have a drink on the way back to load the boat.

We chose not to drink and drive 20 years ago. Never got in trouble, I just decided it wasn't worth it. Now one of us is the DD or we ride with someone else.

Never mix food with alcohol! That’s nap time!!

For those who think eating helps with being drunk they’re far from right. It actually slows down your body’s digestion of the alcohol. You will actually be drunker longer if think going to Dennys after the bar helps.

Also, if you pull a good drunk you’re still legally drunk 12 hours later, food only prolongs that.

I will have a glass or two of wine over dinner and drive home, confident I am well under the legal limit and not impaired. I decide ahead of time if I will have more than that and just take an Uber.

I grew up in the early 70's (high school) did some stupid stuff, yes drinking & driving. I never hurt anyone or anything I guess I got lucky. My drinking days are behind me and have nothing against it.
I think having a couple of drinks and trying to make it home is a roll of the dice. Might get pulled over for something unrelated and have a cop looking for something and it will go from bad to worse.
It will cost you $10K in the long run.

This right here. If I drink or plan to drink then uBer it is. uBer is MUCH cheaper than being charged with DWI/DUI.

What I don't understand is why is drinking and driving illegal? Not driving drunk, that should be illegal but just drinking shouldn't be.

For example if someone gets off work and stops at the quick mart why can't they buy one of the single cans of beer from the cooler and legally drink it on the way home? They certainly wouldn't be intoxicated with just one beer.

It is perfectly legal to drink one beer at home,or wherever and then get in your car and drive why can't you drink that one beer while driving?

If you are going to drink it up and get buzzed or whatever sure don't drive. Having one or two (not 3 or 4) beers with dinner isn't getting buzzed unless you weigh 100 lbs.

Just like I can carry my gun and not shoot up a school I think I have the discipline to drink one or two beers and not become intoxicated and a hazard to others.

I hate drunk drivers. Don't misunderstand what I am saying. Drunk driving is bad. Buzzed driving is bad. Merely consuming any alcohol doesn't put you in this category any more than having a penis makes you a rapist.

Not worth it. Period

Life’s distracting enough, one slip and you may not be able to live with repercussions.

Simpler just not to drink and drive.

MADD based in Irving went on a rampage and got a bill passed to make drinking and driving a crime in Texas. Seemed like it was around 2000 or 2001 time frame.

Before W had to mitigate his DWI before his presidential run you could have a pop on the way home from work....

Now people have to stop at the bar, with their friends, and drink one too many, drive home buzzed, get pulled over for not having
the front license plate and end up with a DWI....

Just sayin.

I grew up when it was 18 for drinking age, and an open container was legal. It went from 18 to 21 later on.

I will have a couple toddys when we go out to eat, but the wife is my DD.
