Wife got stopped last week by DPS for not having one the front of her BMW. She got a warning and I got to install the bracket that came with the car and the plate. I didn’t want to drill holes in a new car but so life goes.

I’ve never ran one. I’ve gotten pulled over a few times by DPS always got a warning besides one time. Cop is a prick that I know personally. He gave me a ticket to be a dick. I still never put one on.

My wife drove a Mercedes 550 and did not have a front license plate.

I did not pay attention to the inspection back then. It was before the one sticker program.

I went in to get it inspected and the guy asked me where I got pulled over. I said I had not. It was 14 months overdue.

The registration was current. I do not know how I did that and not the inspection.



She always drove it like she stole it. I do not know how she did not ever get pulled over.

One time she made it to the hospital in 4 minutes, normally a 10 minute drive. A patient was coding and she told me if a cop tried to pull her over, the cop would have had to chase her into the patient's room.

My wife's Merc doesn't have one.

I wrote that ticket all the time. Great RFC.

It was a very rare occasion that I let anybody off without a ticket. Not to be a hardass, but it helped my court cases when I could show zero discretion

An acquaintance years ago got a DUI. The probable cause for the stop was because he didn’t have a front plate on his car.

If I had a sports or luxury car I wouldnt run one. Ive been pulled over 5-6 times for it and always warning. One time I was being a jerk and told the DPS officer “12” when he returned back to my vehicle. He of course asked “12 what” to which my smart azz replied “12 vehicles have passed by without front license plates since we’ve been pulled over”. To my surprise he responded “yeah its pretty common but its the law, screw it on when you get home”.

Wife's Beemer does not have one on front, we know the laws. BMW told me not to worry about it. So we don't. Keep in mind usually home after dark and wife drives 15 miles to work.

I don't get it. Why ask for unnecessary trouble? Who really cares what their front bumper looks like? Plus, if your vehicle stolen and backed in somewhere, having a front plate might your vehicle back.

Because all the cool kids do it.

Front license plates get hung on things, ripped off in the carwash, etc. Imagine screwing your license plate into a $150k+ sports car. Pretty much as useless as carrying a piece of paper that proves you have insurance. Its 2022, we have cars that drive themselves, nfc tech, gps & geofencing tech, but we still need physical metal license plates. Its just govt tech innovation moving at govt pace.

I guess if you drive a 150,000 sports car you are exempt from the law.

The daughter doesn’t want to clutter up the front of her cute little bright red Miata. I told her what you guys said - positives and negatives - and she decided to not use the front plate. She is a blonde, so I suggested that she do the cute dumb blonde thing if she got pulled over. Being a strong type woman, she was a tiny bit insulted that I’d suggest that, but you can bet she’ll try if need be.

BigPig’s response sure got me to laughing though. And back in the 70’s, in the Marines as an MP, we were told to never write warnings. If they deserve a ticket, write the ticket. And I learned another thing. If I have to get out of this dry truck and walk over to you in the rain, you gettin a ticket. Blonde, good looking and buck nekkid, you still gettin a ticket. But…if you are a General, you didn’t get a ticket for any reason.

I had no idea it was cool not to have a front plate. Never crossed my mind. I thought there was always a place to screw on a plate, but it sounds like its not always. I guess I dont have a sports car, so theres that...

It ticks me off when people don't have a front plate. I had to drill holes in my front bumper and install a mounting bracket so everyone else should too. I have read that in the DFW area you won't get pulled over for not having one but if you get pulled over for something else you will get a ticket for it. From the posts on here it sounds like that article was wrong. Most states have done away with them for the cost savings. It is time Texas followed suit.

Maybe so, I'm sure my time will come eventually and I'll get a ticket. If so, I'll pay it. Still not gonna drill holes in my bumper. Last time I got pulled over was about a month ago....cop told me he understands why I don't do it, but he uses it as a way to pull folks over to see if anything else is going on. Said he occasionally pulls folks over in nice cars that are running drugs....this was at DFW airport service road.
