Yes it is required, fine up to $200.
Lots of people don’t have one anyway and there’s small chance they get pulled over for it, though if they get pulled over for another reason they will probably be cited for no front plate.

Haven't had a front plate on any vehicle in probably 15 years. Been pulled over 3 times for it....always a warning, never a ticket.

My wife bought her car in New Mexico it doesn't have a front mount for the license plate so she never put one on. She's been stopped three times but has never gotten a ticket for it. Crazy thing is all surrounding states do not require a front license plate we must be special

Used to be the fastest way to a ticket on I-20 between Lake Charles and Lafayette was to have a front plate. You could be dead in the center of a group of vehicles and they would flip their lights on when you were still 1/2 mile away. Driving from Texas as easily revenue. If you said anything other than Yes Sir and No Sir, you would get all your stuff spread out on the side of the road while they retrieved the bag of dope they "knew" was under your drivers seat.

Not enforced. Too many out of state vehicles and high end vehicles that don’t even have a place for a front plate. Either everybody has to have one or nobody.

Riding with two friends that were stopped for no front tag. One was one 45 going north half way between Houston and Dallas in a company car, he didn't know it was missing.
Let him go. Other was on 180 heading east from Palo Pinto, got a warning. Couple weekends later we were on the way out there to go hunting, he had the tag on his dash,
same trooper stopped him and wrote a ticket.
