Not new, but the mexican place on the square is pretty good (Casa Grande i think) and we have eaten breakfast at Village Kitchen which is where you may have been talking about, but it's good too

I guess I'm in the minority but I like Dairyland. Prices are right, ice cream is good. Haven't ordered anything but a Jalepeno cheesburger basket and tots or onion rings lately but you'll hear zero complaints out of me about that place.
Herds is good but I won't stop on a Saturday, just gets too busy.

Not a fan of Dairyland. Gave it 3 tries and the barbecue is just not very good. Not sure if they're still serving BBQ, but the KwikStop convenience store had pretty decent brisket and the burgers were good, too.

Here is the scoop on the dining around here.

Both of the good BBQ places, Mesquiteville and Trevinos shut down, so that leaves Dairyland, and it is what it is, but it is not good.

Casa Grande is still pretty decent mescan food.

Neris is still going and consistent.

JR’s is still going and pretty good.

The Green frog closed and an Italian place came and went. They tried home cooking after that, and that came and went faster.

Herds is still slinging out that greasy goodness. Had one a few days ago.

A friend of mine bought the Chicken Express and brought it back to being good.

The Kwik Stop store has good burgers and a decent bbq sandwich and fries.

Village Kitchen sold a year or two ago, and it is still about the same, not bad, but the service is horrific.

The blue taco trailer by Cut Rate has a damn good breakfast taco.

The little Cambodian Chic still runs a good clean donut shop.

The Drug Store still has a solid lunch.

Then you have the rest-
Allsups
Sonic
Dairy Queen

They should be rated in that order, so don’t go into any of the three.

I would listen to LonestarCobra he is a local and knows whats going on!
.

Back to Dairyland. Their BBQ is not any good but some of the other stuff on their menu was pretty good. Last time we went many moons ago my sons chicken finger basket was very good, I tried their Mexican plate once and it was meh. I think one of their main problems is they try and cook all different kinds of foods instead of just doing a few of them really good.

Red Ranger would Love the Donut shop for the last time I was there that Cambodian gal is HOT!

BTW Buzz are you just passing through Jacksboro or doing something in that area?

I'll be hunting up near Windthorst. We can't "stay" on the lease, so we stay at The Butterfield Inn. We usually hit Neri's if they are open by the time we get back. It's a long drive to the lease. Dairyland for a burger or club sammy and some soft serve ice cream, then Village Kitchen on the way home for peeecan waffles.

Zekes in Windthorst is better than the BBQ options in Jacksboro. While you are at the Butterfield you can unplug Hajid's Tesla for fun grin

Herd’s is still a delicious burger.. Take cash!

I’ve been to Dairyland several times but never had much of their bbq.. The catfish plate is good, good, good..

Village Kitchen used to have a massive breakfast burrito that I never could finish.. As others have said, their service has been sub-par for me.

Need to add the Grill at the Jacksboro Golf & Sports Bar to the mix. Best burger in town and it ain't even close. Usually not open for lunch but they are for supper. Worth the stop for sure.

When I hunted up there one of the guys on a lease down the road from me used to go to the Jacksboro Golf & Sports Bar frequently and get pretty toasted at the bar, I have never been inside the place although I was tempted to bring my sticks and play a round.

I ususally stay in Graham but last year it seemed the hotels were always booked up so I'd come back and stay in Jacksborro. Ate at Neri's, and JR's Chophouse a few times both to me are real good, and of course Herds as noted.

The Italian Place that used to be The Green Frog, I can understand why it is out of business - yick.

I always loved the breakfast at Village Kitchen. Sorry to hear the service there has gone downhill. When I first started hunting in Young County 16 seasons ago I ate at Dairyland a few times that first year. Have never gone back and won't.

Looking forward to opening week NOT MLD or ARCHERY. yes, there is still only ONE opening day of Whitetail Deer Season. Sorry sticknstringers

Same for black powder since there are BP rifles (not even Black powder anymore) which can kill at 500 yards. What happened to the flintlocks and Hawkens? Those are black powder rifles. Not the "Inline" guns of today.
