Does anyone actually ever weigh the does they kill? I am in NE Texas and I know weights will be different in different parts of the state. I am very curious about the actual weights, preferably before gutted. I have not weighed in a long time but am guessing where I am at 125-135 field dressed is good size doe. Let's have your ideas especially if you are actually putting them on scales. Thanks Daniel

If you are killing 135lb dressed does, You are killing really really big and healthy does. Mine in panhandle don’t make that.

I agree with bobo, and I have a hard time believing your field dressed does are 135. Roughly 120-135 would be my on the hoof experience in east Texas.

I am going to weigh some and just see how far off I am with my guessing. I am on MLD property and the scales are available to me , just been too lazy and too tired once I get back to the skinning shed. Thanks Daniel

I have killed many doe over the last 10 yrs from Whitney north to state line and to the east of I-35 to state line primarily in TPWD draw hunts. TPWD weighs every doe and ages it. I would say the average is probably around 110 lbs aged at 2.5 to 3.5 yrs old. Smaller size would be 95-100 lbs aged at ~1.5 yrs or older than ~6.5 yrs and larger deer would be 120-125 aged at ~4.5 to 5.5 yrs. I don't every recall seeing one in the 135 lbs range. The older deer wear their teeth down and start to lose weight. Many of the hunts occur at state parks so the browse is pretty good most of the year but can vary depending on the weather. I am sure there are areas which feed heavily where the weights do reach higher.

Have weighed every doe killed on our place in south texas. Heaviest has been around 110 dressed since 2007.

We have weighed and recorded in excess of 100 dressed deer every year for the past 21 years on a large low fence MLD in east Texas. A fat mature doe in prime shape year in and year out will average in the mid to upper 80’s. We will kill a few that dress in the 90’s each year but they are rare. The heaviest we have weighed dressed 106. She was a big ol’ mule headed thing and noticeably larger than any other doe we have shot. When we first went MLD, dressed doe weights on this property averaged in the low 70’s. For comparison an early season 6-7 year old buck will usually dress in the 160’s with a live weight a little over 200 pounds. Post rut they will be in the 130’s-140’s. Occasionally we will have a badly rutted down mature buck that is poor as a snake weigh in the 120’s in December. The heaviest bucks have been in the 190’s dressed with live weights in the 240’s in early season. Oversized mature bucks that attain that body size are outliers for us but we occasionally see them.

All field dressed weights, and will run between 70 and 90 lbs. Concho Valley.

We log ages and dressed weights for cold storage. Webb county doe weights average in the 90's once in a while we get one in the 100lb range. Zavala county, even on protein hardly ever break 95 and average around 85. Robertson county average around 75 to 85, but I've seen some large ones.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Weighed one in Milam County a couple years ago that was a little 100 lbs field dressed. Most of them are between 80-90 though.

I'm in Red River county in NE Texas and it all depends on what you are feeding as well. If your feeding protein year round and the does are born on it then you will see a significant weight difference then if you aren't feeding protein and there are eating natural browse. With that being said the does we shoot on our MLD low fence protein fed year round are around 75-100lbs dressed.

Place we hunted in Kendall county was LF too many deer and years of no doe shooting square heads. Going in does dressed 50-60 lbs. going out 65-75 was typical. Property was also heavily grazed by goats and cows.

biggest doe I've personally weighed came in at 107 lbs dressed. Came of a highly managed ranch in McMullen county.
Our little Hill Country does I get out of Mountain home typically are in the mid 60's dressed weight.
A doe that dresses in the 80's is a good sized doe imo.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Ah I see the question was about field dressed weights. The weights I quoted were whole deer before being field dressed. I agree with most that field dressed would range between 65-80 lbs.

on our Freestone county MLD place, we weigh all deer live weight (guts in) and does are usually 85-115 pound depending on the year. This here (we're on the same place). I also hunt the last weekend of season in Mason Co. at a buddy's place. We have a "big doe" contest each year and I won it 2 years ago with a 77lb field dressed doe. This was out of 14 does (if memory serves me) we shot that weekend.

The wife's weighed 72 lbs and mine weighed 78 lbs FIELD DRESSED.

The doe I took last year on opening weekend on MLD property near Abilene was 113 lbs before gutting. Forgot to get a field dressed weight on her.

Same boat here. We take about 100-120deer a year. We are Deep South Texas near Encino. We Have to weigh and age each one. Average doe weight feild dressed 68# average buck weight #130-140. The bucks can vary a lot more than the does too.
