I was fortunate enough to get on a quail lease down around Refugio/Woodsboro. i have never hunted that far south but have been told it should be good hunting, and much better then what i have seen on my west Texas place the past few years.

Anyone else hunt down that way? Are the snakes bad? Will only be hunting January and February.

Thanks!

I live in that general area. At that time of year there are few snakes. I'd avoid the heat of the day on "hot" winter days. Rarely, I will see a water moccasin near or on a pond if the sun is strong. I'm out two or three days per week in different places throughout the season. Up close, I only saw one snake all of last year. Different territory will have somewhat different results based on populations of field mice, etc. I've not found it necessary to worry about it in that area. Cactus and sometimes scorpions are things your dog should not get into that are much more prevalent than snakes. Best of luck!

Yes there are snakes. The guy I hunted with only hunted on cold days . His place was hit or miss like all quail hunting . Weather dependent. More times he had flooding mess his place up instead of dry ,being so close to the coast.
Good luck!
