Mine is half cursive, half printing in the same sentence. Must be an old age thing.

At work I would frequently sign my name hundreds of times a night so it degraded to initials and my ID number. Now it’s just initials. That’s all I need these days though.

My signature has devolved into a scribble. I still say the letters in my head as I write it, but there is no resemblance to any human language. Years ago, I worked for an attorney who literally made his mark with an "X". He was one of the most literate people I have known and authored numerous articles in addition to a monthly column in the Alaska Bar Journal "The Bar Rag". He just thought the whole act was stupid, and I tend to agree.

I worked on a Reactor Operations crew with my father in law. His writing was so bad it was illegible. His printing was even worse. He was not allowed to make log entries in any official logbook!!! I can still write decent, but it's not the same as it used to be. Used to write pretty. In my mid twenties I got in a pretty good scrap with some drunk guys a lot bigger than me after playing music at a local bar one night. Everyone was drunk, and there always has to be that one big drunk guy that keeps making comments about your wife when it's supposed to be over with. Something in my right hand got broke afterwards and just never healed properly. So my cursive is sloppier lol.

Since I computer for a job (the last 22 years), my handwriting went from somewhat passable to almost completely unreadable now. With automated payments and such, I can hardly even write a check, and my signature is so bad the bank called me about one check and wanted to make sure it was me. If forced to write something more than a shopping list, I would use cursive, but good luck to anybody who has to read it (including me). Same thing happened to me because my hand writing is so bad , I had a heck of a time getting my bank to honor my check .

When I write notes for myself that I don’t want read by others I write in cursive. I think at this point I pretty much write the first 2 letters correctly and everything after that is just swishy connected scribble, but it works for me.
When I print, it’s all upper case but of different sizes.

I was signing papers to purchase a house and the closer at the title company wouldn’t accept my signature because it in no way resembled my name, or even my initials. It’s also what is on my DL, so she eventually conceded and accepted it.

My longhand is horrible. My Wife jokes that I have the handwriting of a serial killer, One of the reasons why is that I'm left-handed and when I was little I had a teacher try to make me write right-handed and it screwed me up. I was the only one that could read my notes and sometimes even I had problems. Starting in High School I had teachers tell me I had to turn in big reports typed. Fortunately I took typing lessens in the fourth grade and we had a nice IBM selectric.

I learned on a Selectric. Helluva machine.

I have terrible hand writing, my cursive looks like a cross between chicken scratching and ancient Hieroglyphics.

Useless skill. I have no idea why they would be pushing it in schools. Because it’s 2-3x faster than printing. That’s only one reason but I figure it’s one you can understand. And typing is much faster than either. You’re far more optimistic than I am about the future of society.
