Need some help from the high end wine drinkers or collectors. We had a very nice bottle of 2016 Opus One cab donated to my charity auction. The bottle is signed by someone in conjunction with the vineyard, but it's not Robert Mondavi or Baron Phillipe De Rodriguiz. Any idea who it may be? And does this increase the value significantly?

I use an app called Vivino when looking for new bottles to try, so far it’s been pretty good. It appears you have a highly rated bottle of wine.

Looking at the Signature, it looks like Michael Silacci the wine maker there..
Spend time with the ones you love. Time is not guaranteed.

All Opus wines are expensive, and I think they are all signed. Way out of my league. I buy wines in the $15 to $30 range, you can get really good wines for that price.

Holy crap, I hope you have that level of snob attending your event. Wine is for drinking, not showing off. We like wine, but don't want the calories. 'Going to look at a house today with a windowed, walk-in, "look at us" wine closet.

I’m also guessing those wine maker signatures are not real, they are printed on every bottle. But for that price they probably should be real lol. It’s a nice marketing idea.

Opus has always been a great bottle of wine. I have heard a few great stories Michael Mondavi told about his travels to France to get the Baron fully on board with the deal, Chateau d'Yquem slushies.
If you have time before the auction, try to contact the vineyard and see if they would/could provide a letter of authenticity on the personal signature. It won't change the taste but it might increase the price paid. e

Never have I had a bad Opus One. I would not be inclined to pay much - if any - more for a bottle that he signed. Though for charity somebody else would. I still don't see it bringing much of a premium.
On a side note, years ago Silacci came from Stag's Leap Wine Cellars who also makes some fine wines. No, I'm not that much of a wine nerd. I know this because a good friend is the Sommelier at a high end steakhouse in the Dallas area.

I've had some very expensive wines, usually on someone else's dime. They were good. These days we are more into finding something we really like that is value priced, then buy a case. Drink that, then buy same or find another.

Only in a Democrat's world are Mondavi and Rothschild signing bottles from the grave and doing so with 100% exact duplication every time they sign. Those printed on the label are not the one we're talking about.

I just googled opus, every bottle has signatures on it, all vintages... The label on every bottle has the signatures of Robert Mondavi and The Baron on it, always has. But they aren't hand signed, it's part of the label. On the bottle in question the signature in gold on the bottle itself looks hand signed. Maybe it was done individually or maybe it was part of a deal where he signed a couple hundred bottles, Again, try getting in touch with the vineyard and asking.

I had to look up what that was and to see how much it is now...WOW it's only a cool $82. How long ago was that?

Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.
