when someone posts a WTB , what are they looking for a dog cheap price on a POS? seems most guns are readily available anywhere. maybe can't legally purchase?

I suspect many are looking for unique models and caliber combinations that are no longer in production. Others are looking to complete a collection.

They are looking for a dirt cheap price as well as not wanting to buy from a dealer (no paperwork). I don't think it being a POS has anything to do with it.

Buzz I know you like to buy new firearms but everyone doesn’t think that way. If they can find one used before they lay down the cash for new more power to them. Everyone is not enjoying a cushy retirement. Many are still working hard and raising families.

I've done this and I'm usually looking for the guy who has a gun in his safe he hasn't shot in a while and sees the ad and thinks..."you know maybe it's time to let that one go" and will do so for a reasonable price. Some of my best deals have been on WTB ads.

Sometimes they're a waste of time though. I don't buy new almost ever, so if used isn't much cheaper than new I just won't buy.

When I try to buy used it's mainly to avoid the paperwork. If you think that stuff is going in the shredder after you leave the gun store, you're nuts.

Years ago I put up a few wtb ads but decided it was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I’ve had a lot more luck and rewarding purchases on gunbroker throughout the years. Especially on classic, out of production guns.

I haven’t had much luck contacting WTB folks. It seems a lot of them are looking for a steal. That is they think the item they want is too expensive everywhere else so maybe someone has it and will sell it below market value. Last guy was looking for some rather unique ammo. I happened to have five boxes and offered it to him for exactly what I paid for it 7 months ago from an online retailer. He thought I was trying to rip him off. I searched online and none available anywhere.

You gouger you, shame on you. Don’t you know the THF way? You’re supposed to sell it at a huge loss no matter what the market dictates.

PS…just having fun!

I never buy new. I refuse to fill out paperwork. The newish things I have I have because someone was selling something I wanted for a good price. I generally do not make WTB ads because the people that do respond try to sell you something other than you are looking for. Any more, WTB ads are an invitation for scammers.

Pass the gravy.

I will run WTB before ordering online. If I can beat the new price by 10-20% I’ll take the offer. Or a few times I’ve tried to run down items that are no longer available new. A WTB ad turned up a couple, and they weren’t give always but I was able to grab something otherwise not available.

This forum is focused on hunting, more so than collections or shooting. So it's a different market and the fact you can't readily delete a post means your inquiry may remain visible.

Over the years, WTBs have saved me $ and helped out good folks in the process.

Following gun stores and pawn shops on Facebook can pay off in terms of catching good deals. Some of them will post their consignment guns before they ever go on the shelf. I noticed a pre-64 Model 94 in excellent condition just the other day soon after it was posted that sold within the hour for $850. I have to wonder if someone now has it posted on Gunbroker for several hundred more.

Classified posts can be deleted easily here unless you leave it up over a certain amount of time. Then the edit and delete functions are gone. Also if another forum member posts a comment in your ad topic you can no longer delete. The moderators here will delete a topic if needed.

I can see saving tax and shipping, etc.

If someone doesn't want to fill out paperwork?

red flag to me. I don't want to be the one to sell a gun to anyone who can't check "no" to the questions on the form.

I don't think that's why folks don't want to fill out the paperwork. I think they just don't want the gubermnet knowing they have something. To each their own is how I see it.

Bingo, it's nobody's business what I own, especially the government. I'm happy to show my CHL to whomever I buy from. I'm as legal to own as can be.

And I'll buy new, but I'd rather buy used. Guns bought so far this year it's probably 50/50 for me.

You have a DW for sale? Which model? I happen to be ISO, not to be confused with WTB, a 44 in blue to round out a small collection.

I do this. Not a lot of people listing rusted out junk for sale, but might part with it if you ask.

Im the opposite. Ive bought way more new guns than used. Ive just rarely come across used guns for sale that are that great of a deal and I can just spend a little more for brand new, unmolested. I only own 2 used guns right now.

I have no problem buying a used gun . Most of the guns i want are no longer made or odd calibers llike 41 magnum. So if any of yall have a 41 for sale i would be interested.

They haven't made the kind I buy in years. Find one NIB and it'll be 5X what the MSRP was.
