I need a new travel gun case for a new Alamo rifle.. What’s out there as good (or better) than my trusty old SKB that has seen much better days?
I’m open to a single or double rifle case at this point..
I really hate to do what I am about to do, because it will be very painful for you.

Look at the RTIC cases. Like a Pelican but cheaper cost and well built.
Brayden (Lazy L's Southern Comfort) you will be missed! You were more than a pet you were my reason to rise and return for many days! You were my rock! 12/26/03-10/25/13

I’m not familiar with the RTIC case but the Pelican is the gold standard for me. People say they’re too expensive but I don’t understand that thinking. You’re talking about protecting a $4000 rifle.
They are very heavy though. Keep that in mind.

I’m open to a single or double rifle case at this point.. I've got an SKB case as well, not sure what if any difference there is between RTIC and SKB, the one I have is roto molded and appears to be the exact same design as the RTIC. While it's heavy it has served me well on a couple long trips overseas and all around Texas.

I will only trust Pelican to hold my rifles.
Buy the kind you have to cut out the foam not the "pluck" foam.
Rifle and optic worth $7000, who cares about a couple hundred bucks protecting that investment? My Pelican has ridden in the bed of the truck and been through all the weather Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Colorado could throw at it. As long as you latch all the latches, the contents are perfectly safe.
Pelican does a full submersion test on their cases.
Their coolers are top notch as well, and MADE IN USA.

J.G.- that’s where I’m at.. I don’t care about spending a little extra $$ if I’m getting good protection for $4k worth of rifle & optic in return.
Thanks all for the ideas.. I’ll check them out-

Another vote for pelican and cutting the foam to fit the rifle.

I saw a new one online that is memory foam. Supposedly nothing to cut which intrigues me. Their rifle version is coming out soon. I may have to check that one out.

Look up ICC Impact cases.
I have an all aluminum one and ship my custom .338 Edge in it without thinking twice. Gun & Scope is way north of $4K.
Good luck.

Pelican without foam. Put rifle inside a soft, padded case then place soft case inside hard pelican case. I only have one Pelican case and it can handle many different firearms.
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

I never thought of that. I do subscribe to buying many replacement pieces of foam and cutting them to match your rifles. Cheap enough and once cut you just write on the back what it fits.

They are very heavy though. Keep that in mind. Kind of like strapping a $15k SXS to a trailer with $2 ratchet straps from harbor freight. I see it all the time.

Ritc and Pelican are same quality and essentially same price. Wouldn’t be surprised if same plant. The biggest difference is Pelican has a lot more size options

I don't own a case this nice but I do know I see ALOT of Pelican cases offshore. Not to say others aren't good.
So the offshore business is a great testing environment because we do some serious high tech things that require very sensitive and usually very expensive equipment. Whether hand carried by personnel or freight/shipped in a variety of manners, transporting things to an offshore destination will surely mean items are handled roughly. Not to mention the corrosive and dirty nature of the open sea air. Still Pelican is pretty much exclusively the only case brand I see for the really sensitive and expensive items; stuff like survey sensors and VERY important computers.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

I have several, I actually have an entire shelving system in my garage full of gun cases. By far out of the ones I have the Pelicans are the best. The Plano All Weather cases are good too and not that expensive. But for a really expensive rifle like that, I'm sure you'll also have really good glass on it so I wouldn't cheap out on the case.
