Finished the 2700 mile trip to and from the Michigan UP. Had to fight my way through traffic in Memphis and Little Rock on the return. Awful traffic and road repair. Crossed the Texas line at Texarkana, with Waylon singing “Bob Wills is still the King” (as I sang backup). Traffic eased a bit and a weight was lifted off me. Stopped at Sulphur Springs and had burgers at Flip’s Burgerland. Outstanding burger. The jalapeños lit me up and I smiled through the pain.

Good to be home, except everything in sight needs mowing and shredding.

The marriage survived the trip in the Sprinter Van. Pretty tight in there, but it drives great. 16.8 mpg. Diesel prices varied from $5.99 to $4.24.

I might go get a shrimp cocktail tomorrow. And yes, it is mighty hot again. I thought it’d cool a bit while we were gone. Silly me. Vacation is over. Tractor time tomorrow. Shred till I’m dead.

It did cool off while you were gone, but then you were headed home and the heat decided to make a return to greet you!

"Well the honky-tonks in Texas were my natural second home
Where you tip your hats to the ladies and the rose of San Antone
I grew up on music that we called western swing
It don't matter who's in Austin, Bob Wills is still the king

Lord, I can still remember the way things were back then
In spite of all the hard times, I'd live it all again
To hear the Texas playboys and Tommy Duncan sing
Makes me proud to be from Texas where Bob Wills is still the king

You can hear the Grand Old Opry in Nashville Tennessee
It's the home of country music, on that we all agree
But when you cross that old Red River hoss, that just don't mean a thing
Because once you're down in Texas, Bob Wills is still the king

Well if you ain't never been there then I guess you ain't been told
That you just can't live in Texas unless you got a lot of soul
It's the home of Willie Nelson, the home of western swing
He'll be the first to tell you, Bob Wills is still the king

Welcome back sir cheers

I don't know what it is, but it seems that once you cross back across the Texas state line, home is in sight, even though there's hours of driving left to do.
