That’s a good time to hunt south Texas.
Bring a good set of rattling antlers
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

This is our 3rd time to be drawn on the chaparral. The 1st two times were Oct 2009 archery and Jan 2010 rifle. Stay on it and check because you will get drawn. We were dry for 8 years then few years ago I couldnt go on the nilgai hunt in South Texas we were drawn on. Good luck dont give up keep putting in. because my understanding is if you stop I believe you lose your preference points if you dont put in the next year.

Congrats! Got my 15th rejection in a row for the Chap rifle hunt this year! Was drawn on the bow hunt 6 years ago. It's a fun place. Good Luck!

my son and I were drawn for Nov. 21-23 management hunt, when they were under 17 my kids were drawn for either sex hunt and both killed their biggest buck to date. Glad to be going back and looking for the warthogs or crazy management monster buck

Do you know what compartment he will be hunting? We just got back from there from our last weeks hunt 2 of 4 of us harvested bucks. All I can say is be careful there are tons of 14in bucks and thats the minimum width I saw a couple of 140s and the widths were questionable so they got a pass. They are full mature 5 and 6s with 14 ish spreads with good mass and height. They need to clear out alot of their heard because the norm is narrow and tall. Some people were not seeing much. We didnt see hardly any doe. One wharthog was shot. Good luck let me know if I can help Pm your number to me and we can talk.

Thanks for the info. That is one of my concerns is not messing up on the spread.

There are lots of 13 to 14.5 spread bucks with lots of tine length and mass that to a youngster will look huge. Good luck. We had to send in 3 choices and they choose our compartment according to how we were drawn. I would recommend taking a double tripod or a tent blind and get off the path of their stands. Orange and red are two colors deer usually dont find as threatening but down there every body wares orange and those deer see it even when hidden. Have they even showed you the compartments at all.
