I’m gonna say meh on the “get a belt” thing. I’ve got a metal lined Bigfoot belt and it’s less comfortable than my regular leather belt.
I carry everything from a g43 to a 1911 to a gp100…. The super stiff belt makes carrying any of them LESS comfortable.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

I also have a Bigfoot belt with a steel insert. I didnt care for it at first wearing. It took 2 or 3 weeks to form to my body shape. But, after a couple of months , it fits very well and has zero sag, even when working. Without the Bigfoot, , I would be shopping for suspenders.
I think Hanks belts sell one with a kevlar insert. It is advertised little thinner than the Bigfoot.
If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

I'm a fan of double action revolvers when working. I've been carrying an old High Standard .22 DA revolver on my hip for about 25 yrs getting it plum filthy shredding/mowing etc and it fires every time I pull the trigger. It's lightweight with a 6" barrel, accurate, and has killed a LOT of critters. I don't like getting my semi autos dirty. My old compadre at the ranch used to carry a S&W semi auto 9mm and I watched that gun jam several times over the years because it got dirty. Get back to camp, clean it, and it runs fine. I've never once had that problem. He finally started carrying a revolver too. To each their own.. I had 4 inch Sentinel High Standard in 22LR. Really rugged. If I remember correctly, Ruger hired the HS engineer to build the Security Six. Had Security Six also. Both were gritty in DA, but I could douche them down with WD 40, and they were happy again.

Like a few others in this thread, I'm going with a Glock. If you want to shoot pigs, then a G29 in 10mm, specifically. I have a G20SF in 10mm and the oinkers don't like it none.
Simple, torture-tested, and easy to clean.

I forgot about it. Talking about High Standards, grabbed a Military HD and a 1911 .45 a few years ago. Didnt mean to hijack the thread.

I've been seeing a lot of Smith & Wesson M&P .40 S&W police trade-ins for very cheap, seems like that could be just the ticket. Carry mags with birdshot, FMJ, and hollow points depending on what you need to shoot.

I wear my shirttail out, which keeps most of the dust and debris off my pistol. I clean about once a week, and oil very sparingly. I carry a DA-SA automatic on half [censored], and it does tend to get dirtiest under the hammer area, but not enough to switch to a revolver…

The most comfortable woods bumming gun ive worn is a 329pd in a tanker rig. You will forget your wearing it. Downside is recoil unless you reload. But a glock in 10mm in a flap holster would be my 2nd choice. Tarus makes a lightweight 357 and 44 revolver that is cheaper than the Smith&Wesson.

I bought a S&W Mod. 60 with a three inch barrel and adjustable sights. Then I added a flap holster for it. My wife stole it from me the first day she tried it!!!! For the past 12 years she has worn it every time she takes a walk.
I finally settled on an engraved, custom Blackhawk in ,357 mag. for myself. It gets dirty but I don't mind the cleaning.

I remember living out in West Texas. Lots of ranchers carry single action revolvers. I have a Cimarron 45 Colt single action and if I lived there now, I'd strap that one on for dusty conditions. If I had to have more capacity, I'd add the Henry X 45 Colt to the mix.

Rock Island makes a decent 38 special revolver. I have 2" and 4" models. Always shoots.

As above, pocket holster or flap holster to keep it cleaner.
Being able to single handedly ram the muzzle of a handgun into something mean and hairy, and empty it, is an advantage held only by double action revolvers. For lightweight, Ruger sells a 3" LCRx in 357 if you can handle it. Not fun for me. Milder but heavier is the SP101 in 327. It's a peach.
