Anybody ever chicken fry dove breast? Trying to do something a little different tomorrow than the traditional bacon/jalapeño. Wife doesn’t like stir fry or else I would do that.

Yes it turns out good. Don’t over cook.

You can also filet out meat and make soft tacos.

To be determined

HEB has a batter that puts KFC flavor & texture on the dove. Wolfie cooks it up pretty darn tasty.

That's the only way I knew to eat it for years

Only way I had it as a kid. I have not had it that way since though. I probably wouldn't cook them that way if I had some.....but I haven't shot a dove in years.

When I fry dove I just roll them in flour and fry in shallow oil. I still want to be able to taste the dove and not have equal portions of batter.

Yep, didn't know there was another way growing up. Used to soak them in milk or coke before frying. We also fried them with the breast bone intact.

When friends hear I have some dove in freezer they always volunteer them to be wrapped in bacon and jalapeno! I suggest they take up dove hunting cause mine aren't going to be wrapped and pepper crammed in them, if I cook them then I cook them how I choose. Battered and fried always worked for me.

Yep, and throw some biscuits and gravy on the side and you have a really good meal.

One of my favorite recipes when I owned a Blackstone Griddle.

coffee spelled backwards is eeffoc. I don't give eeffoc until I have my morning coffee.

I marinate the boneless breast halves and marinate in olive oil, garlic, pepper, etc and put on skewers and grill. As stated above don't overcook. I also pluck whole birds and simmer low on the stove with some broth and salt and pepper and when the meat falls off the bone remove and thicken the gravy, pull the meat off the bones and put back in the gravy and have it with grits and biscuits.

Try them in rice.

Two other ways I do them.

1. Sautee them in Garlic butter and blackberry jelly.

2. Kebob basting them with habanero mango jelly. Picture is actually red snapper but I do the doves the same way.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Try this...Dove Flautas..Got to soften those tortillas up first in oil/fry pan to roll them, or they crack and split..

I've done it, was not impressed.

Now chicken fried quail is another story.

Did you tenderize it with a mallet first, then bread it? Gravy? This is the key I think. Bet this guy would do a great chicken fried dove...

We gutted / plucked all dove growing up. Mom fried them whole, probably one side at a time. Always had potatoes, pintos and gravy with them. I never knew there was another way til I got to college. First time I breasted a dove around my Dad he about had a heart attack because I was "wasting all that meat."

I’ve some Sharptail grouse, I’m gonna tenderize with hammer, marinate, roll in flour and drop in hot grease. Will report back with results. They are red meat like dove.

I did use a mallet. Gravy, you bet.
They weren't bad, I guess I just prefer the bacon / pepper / cheese / bbq thang.

I've found the only way I like (no, change that LOVE) dove is bacon wrapped with a jalapeno and grilled...just don't eat it any other way.

my mom used to just roll whole breast in flour, into a skillet with a little grease (probably bacon renderings), low to medium heat and put a lid on top to get somewhat of a steaming effect (she called it German frying). only way I ever ate them fhe first 20+ years of my life. I love them like that. by my mid 20s, a friend turned me on to slicing down the center breast bone on both sides, sliver of onion on one side and a sliver of jalapeno on the other, wrap with bacon and on the pit. The last couple of minutes glaze with a little BBQ sauce. I think I still prefer the whole breast German fried over anything else.

I’ve always said a good flour batter, some gravy and Louisiana sauce I could feed you my old mutt and you’d think it was good.
