While being very cautious about invasive species, I have to say that warthogs make great trophies, and I’d love to hunt them again without having to fly to Africa.

Warthogs are very fast. When hunting in Africa 11 years ago you could see them running wide open along the roads. They did not even slow down to go through small holes in a fence. I wonder if they will out-compete feral hogs for food, I know Texas won't but now would be a good time to put a bounty on them and start an aggressive eradication process. Most states wait until invasive species are totally out of control before starting the well worn process of.... too little, too late.
"Group think" is not thinking. It is the lack of independent thought. It is a cancer of the mind.

Crazy question, but since it is a cousin of the pig, could it cross breed?

Just re-hashing an old topic. Fear mongering media! They are fun to shoot tho, and I have killed about 3 dozen in Africa!!!
They found warthogs in 2014 on the Chaparral WMA, and a few others were spotted on several other surrounding ranches. Everyone was quick to point their fingers at Jack Brttingham and his Rancho Encantado ranch, but truth be told they were brought in to several other hunting ranches at the same time. I think the Texas Hunt Lodge still advertises hunts for them. They see and kill a couple every year on the Chap during the public hunts.
No worries about cross-breeding because they are pretty different genetically. Same with bush pigs, and giant forest hogs. If it did happen, like most of our triploid hybrid fish, they most likely would be sterile.

The TikTok video appears to be viral, but not so much the warthogs based on the number of kills being reported. As for cross breeding... Phacochoerus africanus [Warthog] Sus scrofa [Domestic Pig] In his description of southern Africa Anders Sparrman (1786, vol. II, p. 26), the Swedish naturalist and disciple of Carl Linnaeus, mentions that a litter of these hybrids was farrowed on a South African farm. He also mentions that Pallas had attempted to produce this same cross and failed. http://www.macroevolution.net/pig-hybrids.htmlDomestic pigs and warthogs have been in Africa for centuries together and the above reference is the only reference I can find that indicates a successful mating of these two animals that are not even in the same genus. It is possible that Sparrman was confused or misled on the matter. That after centuries there are not more known instances of successful hybrids, I highly doubt it is likely or even plausible.

I think if the warthogs were around they would show up on the THF. Right? I havent seen a single thread or pic of a warthog at a feeder. Just a single headline of hype. I wouldnt mind a few running around though. The more pigs to shoot the better.
GO TRUMP!

Do they breed as prolifically as feral hogs?

A boar was killed when we hunted Chaparral WMA a few yrs back. Would make a nice mount.
