Went to meet a friend for lunch on Wednesday in Lewisville, on the way back I stopped at the QT in Lewisville on 121 just East of Main St.
I only put in about 10 gallons or $30.00 worth of gas in the truck.

This morning the wife asked if I went to QT in Lewisville for there is a $175.00 charge on our AMEX card from there mad
Not sure if someone put a reader on the pump or had one of those electronic devices they can carry on them if they are close.
If you have used that QT recently check your card charges!!

Criminals.
My question is, how do they profit from that?

Often gas stations will pre-authorize your card for the max amount they allow at the pump. I bet it goes down to $30 after a day or two.

Yeah, but it likely should have said "Pending" on the statement at the time she checked...

If it's a scam there will be more than one charge, your QT fill up and the scam charge

It's just a preauthorization as others have said, and it likely does say pending. Not a scam

Thanks for the input up

I called the QT at 5:30 this am and spoke to a young man about it, he said give him the last 4 off of the card and he will get with his manager when she comes in at 5:30 and she will call me back, I remarked that it is 5:37 now.
We/I usually only use my Debit card but the wife wants to start using the AMEX for the points and pays the balance off in full at the end of the month.

Wife did a dive into the charge and it does say Pending so probably nothing, still have not heard from the manager?

I never use a debit card. That’s cash directly from your bank account. Credit Card only, easier to contest fraud charges plus you get miles or cash back.

You can buy gas with a gift card. If they scan it what do they get?

Gas pumps are notorious for fraud. Never use a debit card at the pump, credit card only. As they state above, much easier to contest a credit card charge than a debit card charge.

Usually they just scan your information keep it on file and charge it somewhere else. So not to give away where they got your information from.

My Wells Fargo card is both a debit/credit card so I always use it as a credit card at the pump. The difference is debit will ask for my PIN number and the credit will ask for my zip code.

You obviously did not have a card with a chip in it because they promised those would take care of the fraud bang

Yep. Only thing I use my checking account for is to pay credit card bills.

I read a while back about the hold put on cc's for gas. I haven't experienced it...yet.

It it draws from your checking account, it doesn't make any difference.
