Looking for recommendations on decent optics for my Henry Big Boy chambered in .357. My eyes just aren't that great anymore so I need a nice set of optics. I've looked at the Vortex Strike Eagle SE-1624-2. I won't be shooting out past 150 yards, so I don't need and over powered one. I don't need anything past 9X. Any suggestions or recommendations?

My Marlin 1894 357 I have tried the 1-4 and 1-6 and keep getting 2-7 scopes with 32 or 33 objective. 2X is low enough for close shots while 7 is higher than rally needed but sometimes I want a little closer look. The larger objective lets in a little more light which can help a lot early and late especially on cloudy days.
I do still have one 1-4 scope on a boltaction 44 Mag and have 2-7 scopes on Marlin 1894 357 and 25-20, Boltaction 30-30 and 44 Mag, 7mm-08, 22 Mag... Yup I like that range of magnification.
Of the ones I have looked through in stores lately, I would go with the 2-7 Leupold firedot version. you do not have to turn the light on but can be helpful on an early or late shot on a black hog.

I have a Weaver 1-3 on my Marlin 44 Mag lever gun for when I used to hunt pigs at night with a light. A 1-6 power would work well. If you want more light for early morning or late evening hunting, get one with a larger front objective, like a 2-7.

I went simple on my Big Boy X in .357 and put a Primary Arms SLx micro prism on it with 3x fixed. The biggest challenge with these guns is getting it low enough for a good cheek weld while still being able to see over a suppressor. Whatever you buy, I’d think about your mounting solution and how to get it low enough AND with proper eye relief. The pic rail is what I went with and it almost didn’t work. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/09/full-43438-362007-b037c232_20b1_4c23_a191_dd46ff71fdfa.jpeg)

I’ve got a couple lever guns with scout scopes and a brace of 1-6 or 1-8 LPVO on other bolt rigs but nothing works in brush country as well as a simple red dot.

I've tried several different scopes on my Marlin 1895, red dots, fixed 1X, 2-7x32, 2-7x32 scout. I finally settled on a Leupold FX-II fixed 4x33mm. Reasons listed below: - Good light gathering for low light. I use this rifle in the East TX woods and its dark even during the day. All else being equal as far as glass quality etc, fixed power transmits more light than variables and certainly more than any red dot I've used. - 4X is plenty of magnification out to 150 yds and gives enough field of view for close in shots - Can mount it relatively low. Lever actions are fast handling point and shoot and you need a good cheek weld for that
Red dot is probably the fasted for target acquisition if light gathering is not a major concern. I have no trouble using a 1X red dot out to 150 yds. If you decide on a red dot, don't get one designed for an AR-15/10, they need to be mounted low.

I just acquired a Rossi 92 and I’m considering a Trijicon MRO.
