I have one bunch on my place that is dang near tame. They swam in the tank while I was fishing and when I’ve fed fish. Another bunch stood almost on the road when I drove by on a 4 wheeler. I know where they usually stay during the day and I’ve walked up on them. They don’t bother me. Yes, they eat the feeder corn and I chunk rocks to get rid of them.

I expect that they negatively effect the deer coming to a feeder by being smart enough to get there first. But,they are there and TPWD has no solution.

I own my property so anything they tear up is my problem. I say that because people on a lease likely are just happy to have something to shoot and don’t really care about the damages. That being said I love the hogs and hunting them. We have fairly abundant numbers of whitetail and mule deer but I enjoy hunting the hogs more. It’s something I can do year round, no limit, can do at night, etc.

If the pigs disappeared at my place I would probably sell it. Hunting them is the most fun thing I do on my property.

I'd figure out some other sort of open season game to hunt in the off season, become the Great White Armadillo Hunter perhaps. In Virginia it was woodchucks.

No I don't think I would miss them. The ones on our place have dropped off the last couple of weeks. I think the drought has driven them else where and that is fine. The last one I shot was two weeks ago, and they haven't visited my pig pipe since. I'm saving on corn and ammo. The buzzards are having to look else where for their buffet.

Ditto. A good supply of meat for those of us who have the skills to obtain it.

2-part answer…

1: NO, on land we own… over the last 5 years we went from a rare sighting to roaming sounders year round. When the crops are growing, it’s a major pain to keep them from destroying acres upon acres of sorghum and even the cotton these last 2 years. They destroy fencing and my deer stands, feeders. They are the worst.

2. YES, On friends property… I do love shooting them. I do love year round target rich environments at night.

Some of you all have never felt that amazing feeling of plowing corn stubble on Auto-Steer and all of a sudden you’re lifted up in the air by a 2’ deep hog wallow…. eek2

I wouldn’t miss them. I used to be able to plant wheat patches to feed deer and other wildlife. Now, the pigs root up,everything.

I grew up hunting pigs....so I would definitely miss them if they completely disappeared. But with that being said, some areas are truly overrun with them and they cause lots of issues for landowners. It's a love/hate relationship.

Absolutely, perforating hoglets is my passion.

I snare, trap and shoot.

One can hunt them 24/7/365 and there is no shortage.

ya!

i miss my hog hunts on the Sabine.
Never had hog problems.
They'd follow the creeks, ta were lived.
They didnt do much damage, hit the deer food plots,
& feeders, kept them in check using trail cams.

cheers can understand the feelings, some have with
the crop damage. Would use the Hunting forum, & work with
neighbors ta keep them in check.

Hunting has changed for some.
What once was the price of Gov. food stamps, has become a richmans sport.
For me, its always been about grillen & chillen.
Best wish's.

No. They are invasive. Would be nice to get rid of most of the invasive species.

We penned our feeders about 5 years ago and have only shot probably 3 hogs since between 4 stands and feeders and hunters. So I kind of already do miss them but don’t, I still remember the days of seeing hogs almost every hunt and having thousands of trai cam pictures of hogs mobbing our feeders and no deer.

Eradicate them by whatever means possible.
We have pastures you can't control the weeds on because no one will run a spray rig on and if you try to shred you will break your wrist or the axle off your tractor.
