Lone Star Armory (LSA) billet / cerakoted receiver set
Larue MBS 2 trigger
Aero Precision Adjustable gas block
30 cal can
A2 full length stock
LSA handguard
18” Shilen LFAR mid gas 1x8 twist with matched bolt

I’ll shoot a couple groups with the 8.5-25x leupy (100 grain soft points) and if I can get the gas system acting right and accurate groups I’ll then switch to a thermal scope for pig poppin’….

I’ve had this receiver set for over two years so I’m excited to finally get the build done

I HAD a ar-10 in 243 and it was very accurate and a killing machine and functioned well with my handloads. By the time you load up a 20 round mag and set a thermal on top you will find out its certianly nothing you want to walk very far with.

That’s a good looking rig! Good luck with it,

Took the rifle to the range : good accuracy / I experienced operability issues however

[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

Most groups resembled the two above - 3/4 to an inch dispersion

Soft shooter , gas block only needed to be opened 4 turns out of 15 settings to hold the bolt catch open on empty

First failure was stuck cases in the extractor:

Ejector is stiff , no gunk or interference in bolt face or extractor hook , I removed the reliability donut o-ring and didn’t see another failure like this one

[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

Next up were 3 or 4 double feeds or failures to extract - hard to tell , these are hard stops that I wish I didn’t have to deal with ……

[Linked Image]

Threw on the thermal optic : Bering Yoter 25mm (nice and lightweight)

Minute of golf ball …

I’ll field the gun as is but I’m sure it’s going to give me problems until I try some different parts ……..:

I also had a first , the firing pin retaining clip broke around shot 8-9, this is a brand new Larue cross pin, sheesh…

I’m out this evening with the rifle

Zero verification went well , no shifts since day 1

I removed the bcg and replaced with a known working JP LMOS with JP bolt - took 7 shots before the hunt and no stoppages - fingers crossed

Here is some footage from the hunt the other night

After swapping in the JP LMOS BCG and JP bolt, no failures or stoppages of any sort (25 rounds), so it looks like I’ve got a possible winner in the new 243 AR

I have about 60 rounds of Norma 100 grain ammo and another 100 rounds of Druid hill armory loaded hornady 100 gr interlocks before I start to look at reloading

I've been a fan of the 243 for a very long time, but I don't like any AR-10's for pig hunting (not for stalking - fine for still hunting). Give me an AR-15 in any caliber or a 243 bolt gun and we're in business. AR-10's are heavy, especially after carrying and shouldering for a few miles in the mud.

Thanks for sharing the info on a very nice setup.

I took both my largest East Texas hog and whitetail with a .243. It's no doubt a very underrated cartridge that carries significant punch with low recoil, which makes it very comfortable for young, old, and everyone in between.

If you reloaded you could buy some 108 scenars and have real close to the same thing.

I've wanted a hot fast AR10 but where I pig hunt (AR10 isn't used for anything else) we're too populated for a hot fast round, I'd rather stick to the slower/bigger stuff that won't zing off somewhere that I don't want it too. So it's a 16" 7-08 shooting 162's....it's my lone boar gun. I use a 11.3" 300 Hamr as a sounder gun...or if I just don't want to carry the AR10.

The good times continue with the new 243 AR , I assisted on the take down of a 300+ lb’er last weekend. I have no qualms with the 100 grain Norma White Tail ammo. It can be bought for $ 27 a box whereas the rest of the 243 ammo is WAY over priced.

100 grain Hornady Interlocks loaded by Druid Hill Armory are up next - I suspect they’ll get it done too for $ 26 a box.

After I burn through the factory ammo I’ll reload the brass with with 95 grain SST or 90 grain GameChangers

Headshot on this little pig at just under 100 yards, can’t say enough about the terminal ballistic effect here ….

More carnage this weekend - rifle is purring like a kitten, haven’t worried about troubleshooting the original bolt but I’d say it is the culprit of the jams experienced on day 1.
