6.5 anything is for shooting small things or paper even if you manage to get the bullet going 4000fps. Being able to hit something is not the same as being able to kill something quickly or humanely. I have more 6.5s then I can count but prefer something with a larger bore if I am trying to kill something that weighs more then about 150 pounds.

The 6.5X55, .260 Rem, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5X47, 6.5-284, 6.5 SAUM, and 6.5 PRC would disagree with you.

Are all of them the best pick for elk? Probably not. But all of them have done it successfully.

you know how many sheep and elk have been killed with a .264 win mag and the 6.5-300 wby?

A lot

^^^^ You could probably kill a whale with an ice pick but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to use that. I know 6.5 anything's are used to hunt large animals on a regular basis but that doesn't mean it's the best choice. The Kills are frequently slow, shot placement is absolutely critical, and it's not uncommon for the animal to escape and to die days later. There's absolutely nothing that makes up for bore diameter and bullet weight when you're hunting large animals.

Trolling? Heck no, I meant every word of it.

Where are you getting your information from?

I’ve never heard anything but lightning kills with the 6.5-300 wby.

A .264 win mag also kills very well, a 140 grain bullet at 3000 fps is bad medicine.

Here’s a neat one. Was in my wife’s grandpa’s trophy room last year helping tidy it up. Lots of great animals in there. His favorite safari gun was his 416 Rigby. There are two water buffalo heads mounted in the house from this gun where he planted the 410 grain round right in the forehead of each of them

Here’s a 9mm next to the 416 Rigby in the photo

Car guy. Serial entrepreneur. Terrible golfer.

I got my information through first hand observation. You shoot a 700 to 1200 lb animal with a 6.5 mm anything and they tend to move around a lot and run to a spot where it's really difficult to retrieve them or they go straight off the side of a mountain. This is assuming you took a heart lung shot on them and didn't hit anything in their central nervous system. Shoot them with a 35 Whelen or some of the really hot rod 7 mm or 30 calibers cartridges and they usually drop in their tracks and never take a single step. For Elk I've always liked 30 caliber or larger and shoot to break bones in their shoulders. If trying to break bone the heavier the bullet the better it is even if it's a relatively fragile bullet like an Amax.

Someone made mention of the 6.5 Swede and moose. I've been on a moose hunt and have seen people use that cartridge and have also seen those same people chase the moose for hours trying to find it after they wounded it and finally catching up to the animal and finishing it off after it had been suffering for hours. Expecting a bullet that weighs 1/3 of an ounce if that to take down a 1200 pound animal like it's a lightning bolt to the forehead is simply not realistic

Trolling? Heck no, I meant every word of it.

another!

Why does it have to weigh 12 pounds?

Clambering doesn't dictate rifle weight. I have shot a 6mm Creedmoor that weighed 20 pounds.

Ya lots of sub 7 pound 338 Lupa’s out there… lol come JG you know exactly what I’m talking about.

So, be an innovator. No rule says a .338 LM cannot be built to be a walking around rifle.

Did you know there are people running .338 LM with 16" barrels? Because a 26" barrel is not a rule. It is just more common.

I see your Lapua and raise a 24”, 9lb, 338RUM @ 2875fps (270gr ELDX)

Why did you pick the Borden over other Titanium brands or antix

I'll keep using my 9.3x62mm when I need something "big". 286 grains hits like a freight train.

I had the rifle built before the anTi was on the market (I have two anti now and do like them immensely).

The action had been listed on Bordens website for awhile so I called in and had a great discussion with Jim about what I was trying to achieve and that action (lefty, RUM, Ti) fit the bill perfectly. Not to mention the knowledge gained on that phone call!

Gladly! It isnt going to be a high round count rifle so even with a large cartridge I feel confident in the material!

If youre considering a Borden or a Ti Id gladly link up so you can check it out.

Light rifles are a bit of an addiction! With a anti/antiX Youll get sub 6.5lb bare rifle easily I think! I have a 22" 7saum on an anti that is 7lbs 1oz scoped (VX6HD)
