I know we've all seen kids today that make you shake your head and wonder what the he## is this world coming to. Wife & I are fast approaching our 50th anniversary, and often take the grandkids to the local eatery.

I have always opened doors for her as a sign of both love and respect, but am having a hard time doing this with the grands present. 15 year old with an extra chromosone runs to the truck and opens the door for his Nana, and then he and his 13 year old brother take turns at the eatery door after the race. Last time we were there an "older lady's" cane fell off the back of her chair and the 13 year old was moving to pick it up for her while it was still rattling around on the floor. Picture me nodding and smiling at the lady as she thanked him and looked at us and smiled as she nodded.

We need to notice the misbehavior and/or lack of taking action by younguns which may be attributed to the parentsfaults, but also acknowledge the expected correct things that some do.

You have two young gentlemen for grandsons, by the grace of God and, I'm sure, by no small effort of you and your wife. Well done. His Peace to you and yours.

We are continually amazed at how sweet our 10-year-old grandson is. Now his little sister, the one I call "my angel", is gonna be a real handful, but she does listen to Grampy.

My 13 year old daughter makes us get lots of compliments from coaches and teachers.

But at the same time, God help her, she is as ornery as me.

Yes, Sir.

As a whole, most kids are jerks these days. My wife is a teacher, I work in a different jail each week & our kids play a variety of sports. Manners, eye contact, respect, hand shakes, and overall polite etiquette are simply not taught or enforced by parents sadly. Sad sad times.

I try to keep an open mind in that every generation says their younger generation is lazy, dumb, disrespectful. Its always been this way. Kids back then dealt with things that dont exist today and kids today deal with things that didnt exist back then. Think about all the boomers that were never gonna amount to anything, but then they grew up. All the millennials that were lazy, but now they run the world.

Every generation of kids has its own degenerates. It’s been like that forever. Look past the bad and you will see many kids have great manners and are well behaved. I have had two different seniors citizens approach me and tell me my 10 yr old son opened or held a door for them and I didn’t even know he did it until they told me.

You find good, bad, smart, dumb in all generations. I know plenty of older people whose actions make me shake my head and wonder how they made it this long.

The kids are not bad, and the whole generation is not bad either. The ones in between ours and them now are at fault, and should have been corrected with a switch or belt before it got to this. My kids and grandkids were raised to call anyone older than themselves Sir or Ma'am. I'm proud how they act in public!!

Excellent point to remember. Being old doesn't make you good. That fact is lost on some on here.

I’ve been drilling good manners into my son since he was born. Can’t stand rude little [censored].

What really cracked me up was when he was little and walked out in front of someone I’d say excuse you. Talking to him not the person. He picked up on it and for the longest time when he’d walk in front of someone in a store he’d look at them and say excuse you. rofl I’d correct him and say no, you say excuse me. Some of the looks he got when he said that were funny but once I corrected him and they knew he was actually trying to have good manners their looks changed to a big smile.

That's fantastic advice, I've told my kids their whole lives, if they will say "Yes Sir and No Sir, Yes Ma'am and No Ma'am they can be a damn idiot and still make it far in life.

I taught one Grandson to look a man in the eye and how to give a man’s handshake. But, I also taught my 3 daughters to give a firm handshake to a man and too look everyone in the eye when talking.

I have 2 grown grandsons that weren’t close enough to teach and it shows.

My kids say sir and ma’am and my boy holds doors for young and old alike. So far all of his teachers have been keepers, he doesn’t give them any trouble. It cost me a few whoopins but think they have paid dividends.

Whoopins is about the obly discipline my son responds to. You can put him in the corner, take away toys, or tv whatever. It doesn’t faze him. When he really gets to acting up I spank his butt and he straitens up and is a little angel. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does you can really tell it helps.

It sounds like maybe you're a little cooked, or toasty. Take that back, burnt.

Too much focus these days on children. God first, marriage second, children third.

The children will be okay if the parents are actually, well, parents. Not buddies.
