Must be our open border policy. Thats part of it, my BIL is an ICE agent and said it is coming across the boarder at very high rates, but if you are vaccinated you should be fine.

Yep that's why it's back. So many excuses for not getting kids vacanated when I went to school you weren't getting in without an updated shot card. In the old days science didn't lie, can't say that today.

At least the vaccine for it has been around a long time so there shouldn’t be much squealing around here about it. I hope you're right, but I think COVID has done a lot of damage to vaccines in general.

I had Polio and have a slightly disformed foot and a limp to prove it. I was the first one to get it in Fort Worth and got it as a child in 1953. The vaccine did not come out until 1955. They were so scared of Polio that when my doctor took me in his personal car to Harris Hospital and All Saints Hospital, they would not admit me. Cooks children's hospital took me in and gave me an entire ward to myself. My mother had to take care of me in the hospital as the nurse's were to afraid to tend to me. I was one of the very lucky ones who could lead a normal life after contracting the disease.

A friend of our got is when I was a child, I remember being quarantined for several weeks after being exposed. He survived but had a very bad limp for the rest of his live. Luckily none of his family or mine got it. I still remember going to the town square and eating a sugar cube that they put a few drops of liquid on it.

Dan, I had polio quite a few years, as a young child, before Jonas Salk developed the vaccine.
I was about 8 years old (I think) and several kids I knew lived in an iron lung for awhile prior to their death. Thankfully, I had a light case but has effected me my whole life. It drew up my hamstrings and I could only walk on my toes. I had to go through a lot of stretching and still walk up to a wall every morning to stretch. At 79 yoa, I’m still affected.
I remember the lines of people taking the vaccine. In those days we weren’t dumb enough to think we were smarter than the medical community.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

They were doing trial vaccines long before the 50"s . They experimented on many children.. Early polio vaccine projects (1935)
Unfortunately, initial trials were poorly executed and caused great harm to those involved. Teams of researchers in New York and Philadelphia both administered vaccines containing active poliovirus to tens of thousands of living subjects, including children and chimpanzees. Many subjects became severely ill or paralyzed, experienced allergic reactions, and even died of polio.

Polio still pops up around various places in the world. It seems to hit hardest in “ underdeveloped” countries with limited medical services. Since it has affected my life, I keep up with this stuff.
