The plumber came out and said I had zero pressure from the house to the meter and it was going to cost $6,500 to replace the 65 feet of old steel pipe line and fittings with a shut off valve with the new correct piping. That is a $100.00 a foot, does that sound reasonable???

Kinda high. I'd get a couple of day labors and get the ditch dug myself. Then hire the plumber for a couple hours to hook it up.

Sounds high, but then again I’m paying $14,000 to have a 1250sqft house replumbed both sewer and freshwater. Not even using copper, just PEX, I’m in the wrong business.

That’s about 2 grand more than what is should cost unless it’s super rocky.

Sounds like you are paying plumbers wages for a trench. If you can find someone to do the dirt work you will save $$$$

Agree, you are paying plumber wages to dig it. I had my main drain line coming out of the house broken and was quoted $3500-4000. I’m talking a 3’ x 3’ x 3’ hole to dig and fix the pipe. I found a plumber to do it off the clock and still paid $75 per hour. When said and done he dug the hole in 3 hours and fixed it for another $300. Less than $750 to do the whole thing.

Had some issues with the main drain from the house, out to the city line. They routed it out and camera scoped, and recommended replacing.
The bid was $1800 for the 85 foot run, and it's 8 feet deep. Yours sounds high.

Seems like if you had zero pressure you would have a swamp in the yard and a super high water bill.

That is crazy. Go rent a mini excavator for a day for $300. Buy a couple hundred worth of PVC pipe, fittings, and solvent. Easy half day job $500 and done.
Last year I ran a main line from the co-op meter to my cabin at the ranch. It was 700’. I was going to do it myself but the co-op guy offered to do it for $1,500 so I said have at it. We used 1.5” PVC.

I’ll add I rented a mini and put in 95’ of electric line last month. It ain’t rocket science.
If I was closer I would do it for a 12 pack if you rented the equipment and bought the materials and helped.

Sewer rat I wish you were closer to, I would certainly help and treat ya like royalty! Seems like if you had zero pressure you would have a swamp in the yard and a super high water bill.

I was thinking some more about this. Are there any other circumstances making this more difficult? Does the water line need to go under a sidewalk or driveway? Is it crossing other utilities or a sprinkler system?
For the record I am not a plumber. I am not an electrician either. I just can't stomach what they charge so I learned to do it myself.

Correct I was thinking water. Gas is just as easy use the yellow poly line. I ran one of those 900’ from the meter to my pool heater a few years ago. Had to use 2” for that due to the distance and BTU’s of the heater.
