I’ll be bow hunting out of a krivoman this October and where I want to set it I really need a north wind to hunt it. My question is when y’all hunt out of a blind are you still worried about the wind?

Yes. We set our feeders East/west of our stands with prevailing north/south winds. I road feed different spots pending wind.

Especially bow hunting. Wind is paramount to continued success.

All it takes is one mistake on your part getting winded by a mature deer and you might not see them again for a long time.

Wind is critical consideration unless you get up above their noses in a tree stand!!!

Wind is everything bow hunting . I agree with the east to west or vice versa.. My feeder is east of my stand and I am on the ground . Never been winded with this setup 25 yards apart. The worst thing is looking into the morning sun . It’s a trade off. Good luck !!!

At least not again that season.

Some guys will refuse to hunt a stand whenever the wind is not in their favor, even if it means staying home. They've learned the hard way the earlier lesson.

IMHO scent is your number one concern when bowhunting. In my early days of bowhunting I would just hunt fence line crossings. No blind, no camo. Just sitting on a five gallon bucket in some brush wearing a tshirt shorts and flip flops.
The deer would walk right past me looking and paying me no mind unless they winded me. Deer are pretty tame for the most part but that goes out the window when they smell you.

Wind always matters.

A blind helps mitigate your scent, so does elevation and distance. But mitigation does not mean it takes it away. Wind always matters.

I've seen books that dedicated an entire chapter on the importance of understanding thermals and how terrain can impact the way wind can carry your scent. Thermals created by differences in terrain can cause air to move on even the calmest of mornings and evenings.

Smoke in a Bottle is a product that works very well in detecting even the slightest air movements. Others might wish to create their own with a little foot powder in a small squeeze bottle.

Thanks for all the feed back. I do have the blind up on an 8’ tower. Do any of y’all use ozonics? Would that make a difference when hunting the wrong wind?

You cannot beat the wind or a Deer’s nose.

When bowhunting, swirling winds make it impossible to keep from getting busted but a good sustained wind and your good as long as it’s not blowing toward them.

Rifle hunting I’ve had more leeway but they will still wind you if conditions are right.

I can’t remember what the elevation was it took to truly get scent free and it was like 18-20’…way higher than what most folks hunt at. Your 8’ tower stand isn’t gonna do it

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I’ve found that your scent is more likely to effect deer as they head toward the feeder from their bedding area. Once they get to the feeder they are a lot more tolerant of human scent.

Yes, 18-20 ft is what the folks who make those hunting shows have found works best. Personally, I don't hate deer enough to hang off the side of a tree that high above the ground.

Most of my hunting is in Eastern Oklahoma, and wind is definitely a concern. I hunt out of climbing stands and will get as high as possible. Couple of old logged (and replanted) areas I hunt allow 30’-40’ before the pines get too skinny.

I've been 18' up and got winded by a mature buck trotting down a fence line 40 yards away. Hard to fool their nose.
