My son and I are archery hunting this year and we are looking into purchasing a pop up blind. Our only concern is the strong and never ending west texas wind.
I don't want to droop $3-400 dollars on a pop up just to have it blow away or get torn to pieces.

What are you guys using to anchor your pop up ground blinds to wind proof them.

Thanks

Rebar, as long as needed depending on soil type. You can buy pre-cut pieces at most hardware stores. Bend one end 180° and hammer into the ground. Has worked well for me.

I was thinking of using about 8 or so T-posts and then using bailing wire to wire to the T-posts.

If you do this, I promise that you will trip over the T-posts so many times that you will cut up the blind and throw it to the wind yourself. Try to keep any stakes and ties as close to the ground as you can.

Your overthinking it unless your hunting out in the middle of a 100 acre field, all I’ve ever used were tent stakes and tied to a few trees over the years combined with the stakes and the only blinds I’ve had damaged were from snow. I’ve been using them pretty much exclusively for the last 25 years or whatever year Double Bull first sold them.

The T Post Idea is a bad one, as Chopper said you will bust your A on them sooner rather than later…

Go to the local ranch supply store. Buy a dozen 3/8" pole spikes about 8-10" long. They're less than a buck apiece. We anchor our pop-ups here in the desert for antelope hunting, and never have an issue. They will go into any kind of earth or hardpan, even rocks. You just pull them out with a regular claw hammer when youre done.

I almost never use pop ups but hear of a lot of problems with wind wrecking havoc. It seems more of a problem with ripping out of the tie down material than the stake coming up. Maybe that’s the cheaper ones..?
A friend has some on platforms and I recommended he use pvc along the edges to spread out the contact points. He said works great.

In a field, I've used sand spikes before and they worked pretty well. Make sure the loops on the bottom of the blind are big enough for them to fit through. For the guy strings I'll use 2 sand spikes driven in right next to each other at angles to form an X and then tied off to the X.

Not sure a pop blind will survive texas weather...They will work if you always remember to take them with you. But a bad weather spell and not anchoring will be enough.
