How to Cape a head FWIW Strip taxidermy mounts some stud mule deer on their instragram page. Pluses of caping head- less ice chest space needed, travel convince, less freeze space requirements, backcountry weight, etc Also some taxi’s will trade euro work for capes…

Good skill every hunter should know. Be careful doing the eyes. Best way is to stick your index finger in eye socket above the eyeball so you can feel the knife. This way you won't cut the eyelid off.

I’ve done a few. I always do the Y incision. Sometimes around the base of the antlers can be a major PIA sometimes it’s not bad.
I did build a cabin. Aka the brokeback shack.

Used to do it a lot for the out of state hunters we got. Then I found out a could take them down to the local Taxidermist and they would do it for $20/ea. If we had more than 3 or 4 that is exactly what I'd do. lol When we had larger groups of hunters we'd keep all deer in the cooler and then when everyone had their animals we'd haul them out into the pasture for some really nice group photos and then the work began.
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

I caped the first 5 or 6 small bucks that I shot just for practice before doing Euro mounts. The first couple would have been useless but that is what practice is for. When it was time to do it for real I have always ended up with a beautiful cape.
