The wife is going to buy a new side by side refrigerator in the next couple of days.
I have Googled the heck out of best and worst reviews and there is no consensus, they are all over the map on which one's are good and bad.

I know we will never have a Samsung again, wife is leaning towards and LG because the stores we visited brag about the 10 year compressor warranty.
Any and all wisdom is much appreciated!

we had an LG, gave us more trouble and died at about 6 years. Whirlpool is what we have now, but only 3 YO no trouble except trying to find filters for the water

People say that Maytag is not what it used to be but I’m very happy with both of mine. One went to the shop last year when we bought a new house. It’s 15+ years old. The new one has been great as well but it’s only a year old so time will tell. The one in the shop keeps beer, water, and ice cold cold. Never serviced, no leaking seals, no issues, period.

The new one also has a 10 year compressor warranty. I believe them to now be the same company as whirlpool.

Mine does not have wi-fi [censored] etc. it will not play the TV or music. It does not do your grocery list. It’s a refrigerator, with ice and water in the door.

Amazon has the filters, at least for mine.

This is the Maytag I have. https://www.maytag.com/kitchen/refr...ercold-feature-25-cu.-ft.mfi2570fez.html

Don’t let the big box stores tell you they can’t get anything. We were going to be months out, we ordered directly from Maytag. We did have to pay shipping but we had it within a week.

Ebay also has them. GE tried to get me on a replacement plan for something like $40/filter. I said no way. I have a inline filter on my line into the fridge. The filters in the fridge last a lot longer that way. My water was coming out slow and ice cubes were small. I just ordered a new in the fridge filter on Ebay. $13 with tax and shipping. The original one lasted 5 years.

Whirlpool or Maytag would be what I would get. Just stay away from Samsung and Amana.

Worst...Samsung hands down. We had one at the house. It was fixed under warranty at least 3 times and several more after that. We've had them in two different breakrooms at work and both of those were POS. I will never buy another Samsung appliance.

Samsung = Garbage
LG = Good, no issues, going on 5 years.
Whirlpool (Rent House) = Good, 6 months old. Bought at NFM.

Everything I purchased that was GE broke before the warranty expired and they wouldn't honor it. NEVER BUY GE.

Most recently I bought a table top ice maker with a 2 year warranty. After 1.5 years it broke. They said they don't service it and won't look at it.

Seems like residential appliances across the board is hit and miss. Have to step up to commercial names if you want consistency

Kitchenaid is Whirlpool as well. We've had one of them and had no issues with the fridge at all. The bottom drawer freezer was great when the fridge was inside, but now has trouble with frost in the garage

I don't understand the attraction to French door refrigerators. If you want ice in the door you have to have 2 icemakers and we all know how dependable some icemakers are.

Whirlpool, Maytag and Kitchenaid are my choices. Not a fan of french door with bottom freezers, too many moving parts.

When comparing appliances, look at the bones of construction. In some cases, a well know manufacture will put thier name on a product rather than tool up and build thier own. I have out of that industry too long to name any current examples.
But this can explain why a brand gets mixed reviews.

Have had pretty good luck with a Frigidaire for the last 15 years. Only replaced ice maker motor once about a year in.

I used to be a big believer in GE products. Our whole kitchen was setup with GE Profile appliances when built new. We bought the house a few years ago and the appliances were all only a few years old. Dishwasher was rusted to crap. Microwave had already been replaced. Fridge (French door with large bottom freezer drawer) ice maker went out, then the seals went to crap. The produce drawer gets frozen stuck every few months and the freezer ices itself shut. Still “functional” as a fridge, per se… but even the oven/stove top has had issues and it’s gas.

We’re looking at a full suite of appliances since that’s how you can get the best deal…so I’m enjoying this thread as well

Can't compare any brand from 25 years ago. In that age, these were "durable" appliances. Can't say the same for today's mindset

Yep. I have a 30 year old Kenmore in my rental house that runs as good as the day it was installed. It will probably still be humming along 30 years from now.

Yup. My garage fridge and my lease fridge are both original installs from my folks’ and my mother in law’s house…both are 30 years old and still cranking. Never even so much as clean the dust off the vents. One’s been keeping beer cold in the garage humming away for 7 years now

I’m pretty sure they make some of the Maytag ones as well. Not just own them. When I commented on this thread earlier I looked at my fridge part #. Starts with a W. Looked it up and it’s all whirlpool parts for replacement and they have the exact fridge with the whirlpool name. Don’t get excited, same price either way. $2699. I was thinking maybe one brand was cheaper for the same product. Not so much.

Just got a new LG French door frig from Home Depot. Last one they had in a size that would fit, and was clearanced from $2199 down to $1049. Wife loved it, and the better storage it provided, over our 3 year old Frigidaire. I thought the bottom freezer was dumb, more inconvenient, and stuff would get buried in it, but lost the argument. Have a big full sized freezer right outside the kitchen door tho, so its OK. Happy wife, happy life!!
